Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

@adam32+P i poked some fun at you but too late! You clarified as I was posting my smart a** remarks…now in all seriousness, the 6mm-06 is very high on the list of things I want to try if and Lord willing when I get into wildcatting and custom builds. Someday…

The 6/06 and Catbird are wildcats, so for a 6mm version on an "06" the 240 Wby is the winner... even though it's not exactly a 30/06 casing...but neither is a .270 Win, the necks end up being too short if you use 30/06 brass...soooooo the best 30/06 is a 30/06.

Jeepers!!! What is the actual neck length on those suckers? And some people dump on the .300 winchesters short neck…intriguing round ya got there, like if ackley and Gibbs have an ackley improved Gibbs cartridge the old ackley and Gibbs treatment an extra time!

.200". Its a single feed Mauser 98. It was one of my first gun projects and I turned the chamber by hand. The stop had slipped and the 30-06ai reamer cut a little more than I'd expected and when I figured it out I decided if it was gonna be gibbed up, might as well max it out. It was a 308 that had some throat erosion starting so pushing the 06ai reamer ahead got me a leade that I could load 208amax out so the boat tail was just seated at the shoulder and .040 off lands with no erosion left. The case is just big enough and bullet out far enough to use retumbo at 2915fps. Happy accident I guess.

Not far off what Sherman did. Gibbs didn't take the leap to 280 brass and his shoulder was a bit less steep I think. Not sure if the Sherman is quite as far forward as mine, or have as long a throat, but I think he used the steeper ai shoulder on 280 brass as well so itd be close. Starting loads for 300wsm are usually right in the ballpark. I used to call them all xxxBFH. Biff was originally a joke... but it stuck. Now the .473 cartridges are biffs and the rum based guns are BFH.
piece of Win -06 brass between 280 and 300biff. The big Silverback was at 640 yards, first shot. Love that gun a lot.

I'm curious what everyone's favorite cartridge is that's based off the .30-06? But more importantly, why is that your favorite? Is it the .280 Rem? 338-06 because you hunt elk? .30-06 because that's what you learned with? Just a friendly discussion that just might influence someone's future build.
.270win

.270 Winchester. Boringly efficient and effective, not Uber sexy looking ke some of the modern rounds, but doing the job with minimal fuss. Easy to load for, lots of accurate factory loads, flat shooting, what is there not to like?
