We'bern becoming "too complacent" for well over 50 years!
The "Greatest Generation" came home trying to make life much easier/better for their children. Their children, and I am of that generation, are softer than they were! Then, we as parents did the same for our children……compounding the problem! JMO memtb
Yes MEMTB , you are correct.
We (I was born in 1950), the original "Baby Boom Generation" have thoroughly screwed-up the USA !!!
During the late 1960's and early 1970's, so many of our generation were in a state of mind of confusion, not really knowing what we wanted in life.
Our parents, those of "The Greatest Generation", had lived through the "Great Depression", and World War II (which they WON ), and the USA literally exploded in growth, and opportunity, for Service Men and Women who had returned home from WWII, to start Families and successful businesses.
Many families freely indulged their children's wishes and desires for gifts and experiences that they (parents) had only dreamed about, while living through the "Great Depression".
The biggest change that occurred during the 1950's and 1960's was that the Families began to move away from God, Religion, and regularly attending Churches.
Sadly, this over-indulgence of gifts and freedoms that we, the Baby Boomers were given, set the stage for the so-called "Cultural Revolution" of the 1960's. Hippies, Protests, Drugs, Sex, Free Love, Riots, and Colleges and Universities sewing the seeds of Rebellion into the minds of the young people.
The Supreme Court ruling in 1969 that removed Religion from Public Schools grades 1-12, was brought about by Madelyn Murray O'Hare.
This radical movement stalled in the early 1970's, not because of loss of interest by the youth who pushed it, but it failed then because most of those young people were not old enough to vote.
The legal age to vote in US elections was 21 at that time in history, NOT 18 as it is today.
So, the movement faded away.
But, it was not forgotten !
Many of those young people finished their educations, becoming wealthy business entrepeneuers, Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians, Judges, and eventually one became President of the United States (William Jefferson Clinton).
Those "Old Hippies", now in positions of power and influence, resurrected their ideas of changing America to Socialism, in 1993 when Bill Clinton was sworn into office as the 42nd President of the United States of America.
And, the USA has been on a slippery slide towards Socialism and Communism since that time.
JUST MY OPINION.
I DID NOT participate in any of this that I described above.
