Before I even had a magnum rifle, I used to push 200 sierra pills to 2600 fps from a 30-06. It's a decent combo, but a 200-215 at 2600 vs. a 200 at 3000 fps is a decent gain so I started tossing 150's and 165's from my 30-06 rifles and let the 300win/ 300rum rifles eat 165's and heavier.
My current 30-06 is a m700 lh lss that is pretty much a garbage can. It'll eat any trash the other rifles don't like.
That said, it eats the same 165 hdy interlock/ 57gr. I 4350/ 215 primer load I've been shooting through 30-06 rifles for nearly 30 years just fine too.

Yep, that can be a magical load for the .30-06, try a 168gr Sierra Mk once in it just for kicks, it would amaze you. Cheers

I've used it, but years ago... when the hornady will dump 3 in an inch at 200 with a sporter, I think it's good enough

My son's 06 with 180HH with W760 at 2875 out of 22" barrel opened my eyes plus stupid accuracy out of an old 700ADL. Completely stock except for Holland replacement trigger spring. So I am thinking another 700LA for max COAL, add sufficient freebore, 26-27" 1:9 barrel! KISS build. New powders and bullets are resurrecting old cartridges to new levels! What's not to like about a cartridge that has brass, LR or LRM Primers? All sorts of bullets.

I don't have a current picture. Small changes, Benchmark 20" barrel, awaiting Pain Killer break, quarter rib gone, custom rail. Probably over scoped with a 2-12X Leupold, I haven't decided on a replacement.

My good 'ol Rem700 '06 still gets range time. It was my first rifle and still shoots well.

A Browning A-Bolt and factory ammo has been my backup rifle for 15+ years and goes everywhere with me. There is absolutely nothing in all of Texas (natively at least ) that I wouldn't shoot with it inside of 200 yards.

All things old are new again. Some of us used the old 30-06 on the 1,000yd line many decades ago, and that was with those "old school" BTHP's, mostly Sierra's 190's-200's but also those old mil 175's LR's. In the longer barrel '06's with longer throats, some very impressive vels could/can be achieved.

Here is the other 06 we used Saturday. Serengeti chamber. 26 inch Bartlein CF, McM sniper fill molded in camo, worked over R-700. SRS Ti Pro 3 ST. Vortex HD LHT 3-15.

215 Bergers right around 2800, a MiniMag.

The beauty, we will be in CO, 2nd season. We can interchange ammo between the two rifles. Verified precision and drop for each. My 28 inch stick launches the same ammo at about 35 fps faster.

My father loved his 270's but always kept around some 06's. He built a 30-06 AI on a Winchester pre64 model 70. It turned out to be his best shooting rifle ever. My grandson is now the owner of that rifle and harvested a great eastern WA mule deer with it Saturday. 150 grain Nosler Balistic Tip. His great grandpa would be very proud.
