Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

My .270 was a nice discovery and my .280 an even better discovery. Great members of a great LA family. IMO the 7mm family is my favorite one with my 7mm-08 and two 7mm Rem magnums.

I've built two rifles off the 30-06. A 280AI and a 35 Whelen. While the 280AI shot great I prefer the 35 Whelen for elk and since I only hunt elk anymore I'm selling the 280AI.

Lots of good options, but .280 AI is the only one I use.

My favorite rifle is the first one in 308. I since then have built 25-06, 270, 35 Whelen, and 370 Sako Mag. If I could only have one it would be 308.

I hunted with a 30-06 for years, bought a 300 Weatherby and worked with reloads for both. Later bought a 280 A-bolt and got hooked on this caliber. Have hunted deer and elk with it. I reload using 160 grain Sierra boat tail spitzer bullets. It puts game down quicker than anything I have used in the past. Definitely my go to gun.

I'm curious what everyone's favorite cartridge is that's based off the .30-06? But more importantly, why is that your favorite? Is it the .280 Rem? 338-06 because you hunt elk? .30-06 because that's what you learned with? Just a friendly discussion that just might influence someone's future build.

6.5-06, 270, 280 REM., 8mm-06 Ackley Improved. I love them all. I have been using the 6.5-06 the most recently because it kills very well with light recoil. My last kill was a cow elk at 459 yards. Complete pass through and DRT. The 8-06 Ackley is a hammer. 200 grain Speer Hot Core at 2800 fps. Several elk and oryx taken and all DRT.
