Small Rifle Midway

Democrats.
You can bet the capitalists making container ships full of money off crisis gouging are not democrats friend. Me and many of my other democratic voting komrades? We want to tax Larry Potterfield a little more on his gains to pay for crumbling schools and rural broadband so kids don't have to flee to cities to find work and can live where they grew up. Just a thought.

Midway is a privately held company and I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell. Clean the balance sheet, pump up the income statement and exit while the market is frothing and retire from this uber cyclical carnival ride. How old is Larry? Is there a successor?
I met his son when I was hunting in Tanzania's Kigosi Reserve some years ago. I remember him saying "we are blessed to be able to do this." I remember thinking "everything is relative."

Larry is the Bezos of the shooting community.
A little off-topic, but since this thread is off-topic, why not?

The WSJ today said Bezo's wealth is now 190 billion.

I think most people here would be thrilled to be making $1/sec, which is $3600/hr. If you worked 24x7, it would take you 11 days, 12 hours, 4 minutes, and 12 seconds to earn $1 million. Not a bad gig.

To accumulate 190 billion dollars at $1/sec ($86,400/day or $31,536,000/year) you would have had to start working when? When Bezos was born? Nope. 4,0004 years before Christ was born, or 1,053 years before the first Egyptian pyramids were built. Disclaimer: I didn't take into account leap years, but you get the point.

Bezos wasn't born rich; he had a great idea and took chances that most never would; nor did he sell years ago when he could have retired wealthy. I don't begrudge him or Larry Potterfield a bit.

Reminds me of what SFC John Fischetti said when I joked that he didn't have any balls. He looked at me and dryly remarked, "'Balls' said the Queen. 'If I had them I'd be king.'"

That's not "making money" that's covering the cost of everything you listed lol.
I didn't say MAKING , I said makes...you could use earn if that fits better. Regardless if it covers their costs, or more than covers it ... they still have to make/ earn the money to pay those expenses. As others have stated...Midway has fast shipping, more product availability etc...but recently has increased their prices well beyond the other competitors. Having worked in Logistics and Trans/ supply world it does not cost Midway much to have certified shippers because they have in-house training/ certifiers. BTW... I was one of the Lean Six Sigma principle team members for Midway's roller coaster shipping (Nitro Express). THIS is what sets Midway apart from others logistically. Their capacity and overflow is amazingly flexible and responsive.

2 weeks ago- $41.00 no SH/no hazmat

Midway- $60 not including SH/Hazmat.

I've picked up 3 boxes of 3,000 total primers from Sportsmans in the past 4 months. All at regular 'sane' prices. Large rifle, small mag pistol and small pistol. The last box of 1,000 was $10 higher than the first box.

Larry who?

Larry is just conditioning the customers. Pretty soon $75 per 1k will seem normal, regardless of inventory. These are the same people that were buying game stop stock, when it hit $500 a share.
I have a serious question for you, would you rather have a scalper scoop up all of the primers on Midway for the regular price,(in seconds) and then sell them to you at 300% markup, or would you rather Midway have them in stock for a few extra minutes and you actually have a chance at purchase for a few extra dollars? Obviously judging by how fast the product disappears people don't have an issue paying a few extra dollars to wipe out the shelf.

So...you show what looks like a register receipt and brag how they didn't charge shipping and hazmat?? Uh...that's not really the way shipping and hazmat work.
If you call paying normal prices 'bragging'- that's a pretty sad state of affairs. You don't think Sportsman Whorehouse doesn't have shipping logistics costs?

Midway is an internet retailer with a national footprint and a volume purchasing advantage. They have low overhead and lower fixed costs. By design internet retailers 'supposedly' can pass through the savings to consumers.

Sportsman Warehouse have brick and mortar locations, higher fixed and variable costs, they have shipping logistic costs and higher overhead. Yet they beat the snail snot out of the internet retailer on cost. In this case what- 50% just on the price of 1,000 primers- and that isn't factoring in Midways S/H and Hazmat pass throughs?

Sorry but justifying that 50%+ increase in cost is silly. If you're willing to pay it- great. Have at it. If others are willing to pay $20 for 100 primers great- have at it. I'm not. But I'm not going to 'rally round' and defend this pricing when it is abundantly evident it is cheaper (and available) elsewhere. And I'm happy to pay a local store that actually contributes something to my local tax base.

Good lord, you're missing the whole point! YOU are the one that threw out the fact that "Look, look, they didn't charge me shipping/hazmat and Midway does!". "Bad, bad Midway!" NO brick and mortar charges shipping and hazmat. EVERY online retailer charges hazmat on powder/primers. I know for a fact Midway doesn't charge the most. Most charge shipping, some don't after a certain order amount. THAT part of your argument doesn't hold water and just looks to cloud the issue to make it look worse.

Do you look online at all? I'm fortunate enough to be retired, and with covid I've been spending more time at home. With time on my hands I've been looking regularly for powder/primers/reloading supplies. You curse Midway, but I've seen a lot of major online retailers that have appallingly high prices on powder and primers. Is Midway the cheapest? On primers? By all means no! Are they the highest? Like you're making them out to be? Not hardly. And that's been my main argument in this whole thread. They aren't close to being the worst offender like some are railing against.

Everyone at the gunshow Sat. was talking how Cabela's had a very small amount of primers the other day at the local store (Kearney, Ne). $36/1000. Good for them. Shows what a large entity with their buying power (BassPro) can do right? Of course lets remember, unless they're in their sale flyer (haven't seen one for quite a while though) their guns are what...maybe 10-20% higher than most places? Don't know exactly but that figure gets thrown out there quite a bit without argument. No one seems to pile on them for their pricing.

This thread started out specifically about primers, but I think it's developed into an overall pricing policy discussion. You can't base everything on one price (like primers) without taking everything into consideration. I typically compare prices before I order anything. And Midway is always right in the running.

No I didn't.

I excluded S/H & Hazmat- didn't I? I made an apples to apples comparison.
