Good article on why everyone either loves or hates the 6.5cr

I don't see to many guys recommending it for unreasonable uses on here..., but I sure do see alot of whining about it. I don't get it, great cartridge.
But is it....really?
Lots of other cartridges are BETTER with better ballistics.
I just don't get it.
Have sat next to a guy at the bench who had a cheap gun and optics, toting that out of the box it was hands down the best package you could buy.
His groups at 100 were woeful, my 6.5x47 Lapua ran rings around it and it was not even tuned ammo. Was testing seating depth with a middle load.
Anyway, I am not convinced and have never read into marketing hype.
When Winchester brought out the WSM, overnight the advertised velocity on boxes of 300WM miraculously reduced from 3030fps for 180g PP ammo down to 2900fps, just so that the 300WSM looked better!
Marketing is just that...hype.

Cheers.

I don't have one, O don't have a Man Bun, I don't drink Latte and I don't do Trends.

Can someone smarter than me provide some accurate date regarding 6.5cm Vs 7mm-08?
The U tube clip I saw had a bias toward the Man Bun but the figures support the 7mm-08
No data for you.. I wanted a mountain rifle to fill a niche. Looked closely at 260 REM, 6.5 CM, & 7mm-08.
Came down to CM vs. 7/08.
For same grain wt, the two are very similar out to 400, but 6.5 bullets have better ballistic profile for the same weight, and thus the CM looks better out farther.
The 7mm-08 has a lot more choices as far as heavier bullets, and chose it over the CM. Very happy with my choice.
It was also easy in that I loaded for two other 7mms.
I now also have three 6.5s, none of them CM.

The article locked onto hypes, in particular Hornady's marketing team. IMHO, they are the envy of marketing. In short, they performed admirably in their market research and implementation strategy. What most fail to recognize is that it was not an overnight sensation. It took them nearly a decade to get to where they are today. I personally like how they corroborated/partnered with other gun/shooting companies, people, and entities. I personally do not understand the hatred, but that is OK as I never pay attention to what others think. As a critical thinker and an open-minded analyst, I make my own decision(s) and do not need outside influence, and face the consequences of my decision(s). I welcome anything new to choose from. This is what is great about America, we still have freedom of choice ... and I hope it stays as such.

My average but real-world experience is that my $20 6.5 CM (https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/i-got-my-first-6-5-cm-for-20.201958/page-3) shoots <.5 MOA at 200Y with factory ammo. So far, I am very pleased with it for "my" intended purpose.

Hatred takes too much energy for this average hunter.

The 6.5 CM is just a tool like any other tool. It get's hated like Subarus do. As far as the hatred I can understand the annoyance lol. As I get older I just move on until it becomes intrusive. BTW I drove a Subaru Forester for awhile when I was in outside sales. I found it useful to disguise being in outside sales for LE/Military carrying over 25k worth of firearms and Tasers lol.

I don't hate the CM just the thought by "some" that you can kill dino's at 1K. Its a great cartridge for its use but the marketing hype IMO has spawned a perspective its a kill everything any distance. It was designed with right twist with high BC bullets to maximize its potential. This is called good engineering with great marketing. The real issue for me is the complete lackey approach by so called writers that all other cartridges are irrelevant! When I see a 300 WM compared to a CM with a 180 gr at 2900 fps I laugh at the attempts to "prove" the concept they want to foster.

Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth", is a law of propaganda (marketing) that psychologists liken this to be known as the "illusion of truth" effect.
