interested in a new rifle for elk and I used to shoot a 270 win but sold it because I didn't like the particular rifle I had. I saw brownings fast twist 270s and thought it would be a nice option since I still have reloading tools for it. What kind of performance is anyone getting with these rifles? I don't need anything bigger for my normal Wisconsin game

That would be awesome for a little extra speed. For my budget and having everything I need to reload the 270 win makes sense to me. Plus components are more available when I do wear out the brass I have now

Don't worry about what kind of performance others are getting. Since you are reloading for it, YMMV, and it depends on the bullet you will use.

I have a semi-custom .270 AI with a 30" Lilja, 3G, 1:8" specifically built for the 165/175 Matrix VLD and 170 Berger VLD. It propels the 175 Matrix VLD at 2993 FPS with H4831SC (my current accuracy load). I reached nearly 3100 FPS, but the group opened up and showed pressure. Others are claiming an additional 100 FPS with RL-26.

I built 700LA fast twist 1:8 .270 Win 27" barrel with 0.290 freebore couple years ago and holy cow! The .270 Win is a 65K cartridge that has a "governor" on it until it is allowed to "breathe" with appropriate long action 3.67, fast twist and free bore. I ran a lot of different bullet ladders that all surpassed expectations. My preferred load is 156HH at 3200fps. More heavier higher BC bullet options are coming out due to 6.8 Western that work great with .270 Win.

Plenty of threads here on LRH on it. It will shock you with increased performance.

C'mon @Calvin45, you got nothing?

I had thought about going the custom route. Just don't have the funds for that. I need to save some for bullets so I can find a load I like and get some range time in. I was looking at trying the Barnes 155gr Lrx for my elk load.

If you already have 270 brass, then a fast twisted 270 is perfect for you. I love my X-bolt, and shoot a 6.8 Western which shoots the same bullets as you would in a twisty 270.

SPS has some good deals on factory second .277 bullets. https://www.shootersproshop.com/shop/bullets.html?nl_caliber=334

As does Midway https://www.midwayusa.com/s?Brand=Factory Second Bullets&Diameter=0.277 Inches
Yes I saw that. It's been a lot of fun looking at all the options that were never available before. Thank you 6.8 western and 27 Nosler for making those bullets more available.
