Did I really mess up my first bedding attempt

I would run my 1/4-28 tap through theactionscrew holes with a couple drops of KROIL in the threads to clean out the epoxy in the threads.
I scrape whatever I can of the United epoxy off with my thumbnails. Make sure to wax it up again before you slide the action back in. It may take a few days or up to a week before the epoxy is cured compleyely. It should be rock hard before you start shooting again.
 
Most epoxies can be fully cured at approximately 130* for 2hrs.

Basically, I clean up the excess off the stock after removing the action, place the stock out in the sun for a couple of hours while I fully clean and reassemble the action.
