Did I mess up??

my defiance tenacity started having a grinding sound and after cleaning the lugs I noticed this. It doesn't effect the function but did I wreck my bolt?

Something looks amiss. Metal shavings removed from what? The cocking piece.

Not sure why that happened... I'd call Defiance and discuss it with them. Can probably replace a part or two. But gotta sort out what caused the tearing of the steel in the first place first.

I think it was lack of lubrication. The cocking piece has metal gone as well as the notch where it sits in bolt body when the bolt is cocked.

Was it bone dry? As in stripped of all grease with a solvent wash?

Nope I might have wiped it off when I disassembled the bolt but I'm not sure.

That's what I did filled it with white lithium grease and it feels the same. I'm thinking it should be fine.

you filled your bolt with white lithium grease ? A little on the firing pin threads and back side of lugs is sufficent. In cold to much grease on the firing pin can cause it to not fire

Sorry I didn't completely fill it just a bit on the threads and a bit on the cocking piece. Haha.

Polish it, remove any sharp edges, and use TW25 for lube.
