Deer caliber

I'm going to be one of those guys….<sarcasm > Did you read the post you quoted? The 28 SM is a 7-300PRC, but Sherman'ized!
Had no idea what the 28 sm was. Thanks! But the 28 sm is still a 28 sm and not a 7-300 prc as the case is changed yet again is it not? Not much Shermanized anything in Canada unfortunately so I can't make the comparison well....Sorry Sherm!

For bringing down a mule deer at 800 yards, the 7mm-08 is definitely out.
Probably so too the 270 Win.

Your search should be around the bullet at that range.
Comparing velocity at 800 yards, vs what velocity the bullet will reliably expand.

Tough call since you already have a 6.5x55 plus your other 2 (28 SM & 300 WSM)…going to end up with something very similar or with a lot of overlap…any reason the 3 you have can't have a load specific to maximize distance?

6.5 CM or 6.5 PRC for long range deer would've come to mind, but not much difference with your 6.5x55

.280 AI would've come to mind but you already have the 28 SM

300 WM is an option but a bit overkill/recoil heavy for a deer imo…Maybe a 26 Nosler to have something different if what you already have isn't what you want want to use
