6.5 PRC deer bullets

I just recently set up a load for my 20" barreled 6.5 PRC with 124 hammers. They are going 3260fps and would absolutely shoot deer at 500 yards with that load. I have a 1-7 twist barrel, but prefer to over spin the hammers. I don't like cutting them close on stability.
Would you mind sharing specifics of your loads? Your rifle is almost identical to mine, except for 1:7.5 twist.

Mine is a Bergara B 15 wilderness Terrain, 24" Terrain, 1/8 twist, # 9.3, little heavy for hunting but who cares when it shoots .17 groups @100 or 1" at 300. Shot the Hornady to start but now load the same bullet, 143 Hornady ELD-X & Berger 140 VLD 'S in Hornady brass or Lapua, they like a slow powder and shoot almost the same with out any scope adjustment. and just under 3000 fps. H 1000 or the best is the RL 26, load data is on either book, Hornady's or Berger's , 47.-55.6 is a starting point, Keep me posted on results please

Would you mind sharing the specifics of your rifle and loads? I have 124 HH's on the way to load for my 6.5 PRC.
Did you try Retumbo by any chance?
I am shooting the 124 Hammer hunter out of my Seekins havak in 6.5 PRC. I'm using 58.0gr re26 and Hornady brass for 3210fps.

At PRC speeds for hunting distances to 500 yards, I would think the 130gr Swift Sirocco would be a laser and hit hard.
Try loading the 124 gr Hammers with Reg LR primers and N560 . Steve of Hammer bullets posted he discovered more vel potential with the prc using LRPrimers instead of Mag primers he had a 200 fps or so vel gain up too 3470 fps with the 124 gr hammers and N560 . Also the 131 gr Hammer is designed for the 1-7.5 twist . I don't think you hear a lot about this bullet because most prc ,s are in the 1-8 twist . I load it too 3200 fps , but should be able too push it harder with LR primers and N560 or N165 . I load the 109 , 121, 123 , 124 and the 131 gr Hammers in 4 diff rifles and they all are very accurate.

What powder are you running for the 131s? My prc is a 7.5 twist I'd like to try H1000 or retumbo

Sounds like you like the hammers, did look at them and they all have the knurls on them? How is your group size at 300 or even 100. My PRC loves the Hornady 143 ELD-X , it shoots .17 at 100, but can't find the bullets or if I do they are $$$$$, you think 50 are worth $125.00 ? Also went to the Berger 140 VLD,,, awesome round.

I've found the same true with the creedmore. Went from mag primers to standard and was able to go up in charge weight and speed.

I think H1000 with reg LRPrimers should work well with the 131Hammer,s . My load was 57.3 grs with N165 with LR primers , my vel was 3180 with a 25 in Bartlien . N560 , Rl26 N165 RL23 may work a little better if you run out of powder space . I think N560 is going too work well in several bullet weights . Also the knurls are called drive bands , they are designed too give you less parabolic drag with a gain in velocity. Tha last ladder test I did was with the 109 gr absolute , the test was done with 7 shots with half grain increments . Out of seven shots 6 were under .75 with 3 of those in the same hole . You can't over spin them and they are very acc . I was shooting 500 yds this weekend and I was impressed.

About 3 years ago I bought some 6.5 131 Hammer hunters. I knew they showed for 1 in 7.5 but I wanted a heavier bullet so I bought the 131 and some 124. I worked with a couple powders but couldn't get them to group well. 124 were easy. Steve was correct ! That was in a Needmoor. I never tried 131 in my 6.5 PRC bolt rifle or MGM Encore barrel. Didn't want to learn lesson over again... 124 shoot great out off all.

Hammer makes a heavier bullet for the 1-8 twist , the 131 gr is as long as the 143 gr eldx . and is equivalent too shooting a 140 too 150 gr lead core bullet . The 131 gr definitely takes a faster twist 1-7.5 minimum 1-7 even better , it should be a really good all around bullet.

My results are posted on the absolute hammer load data page , pictures also.
