Need feed back on your hunting load for your .280 AI what bullet and powder that gives you the best out of your rifle

My Hunting friend has a Cooper Rifle and is having issues on what bullet and powder to use......... He was told to try the 168 berger and Retumbo........

Would like your feed back

While at the Sheep show in Reno was told by a Custom Rifle builder to avoid using RL powders and stick with Hodgdon Red Rock Custom Rifles

I'm loading 168 VLDs with 59 grains MRP .009" off lands, in Nosler Brass, with Fed 210 primers for 2975 fps avg from custom rifle with 24" bbl......it shoots .25" all day long!

He likely had bad experiences with the older Reloader powders and temp sensitivity but that is not the case with the newer ones. RL23, 16, and 26 are much better. You might get some argument about 26, but I have found it to be pretty good......rich

It use to be that .500 was the popular group size now it seems that the popular group size is .250
Read a good article about group sizes, it said that the true test of a rifle is to shoot 10 shot groups and that a 3 shot group does not tell you much. The problem is that the more shots in your group the larger it gets.

Thats why I prefer two shot groups

I have several partial boxes of Barnes, Berger & Sierra bullets in 7mm and 224 caliber that didn't work out for me for sale at reduced prices. If your interested I can send a list.

All he said was " Do yourself a favor and stay away from any RL powder......he does all the custom load development for Red Rock Rifles

Any suggestions for a short ,22, inch barrel ? Other than rebarrel it ! It was a 7-08 and want a bit more out of it ! It does stabilize 185 and would like to use them even if I'm only at 2600-2700. I have 150's at 3000 with 4831sc, 60.5 grains . But would really like to use the 185's !

280AI 22'' barrel ten twist. 150 ttsx and 150lrab are my sweet spot with 57 gr of R-26. Nobler brass and 200cci primers. I tried 4831sc which was very good too. Sorry no velocity data.

I know both my .280s like H4831sc... pure magic. Dunno on the ai, but I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try.
