6.5 PRC issues

If you are certain it's factory ammo then get a set of calipers and measure the fired neck diameter and compare to loaded neck diameter. If it expanded less than .004 the neck is definitely too tight.
Does the bolt close hard on new ammo?
It is harder than my other rifles but I just figured it was because of the two ejectors never had a rifle with two. Just measured and loaded round measured .292 and fired .296

I hope that the consensus is there's a carbon ring. Because there's definitely a carbon ring. It's so bad that the bullet is laying copper on top of it when it's chambered. As long as the consensus is that there's a carbon ring and THAT'S where the pressure is coming from.

As for remedying that? There's the search function.

Legit question as to why OP is being told to send the rifle back: is it because it's way over pressure on factory loads? Or is it because it's prone to a carbon ring? If it's the former, then just clean it bc that's where the pressure is coming from. If it's the latter, I don't know if he has much basis for a warranty claim just because a barrel got a carbon ring.

Those aren't "swipes", they're ejector marks from the case slapping the dual ejectors and bolt face. Did it on both the CA 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC I owned. Got rid of the 6.5 and rechambered the 300 to 30 Sherman Mag and won't buy another CA. My guns both showed the same ejector marks with every fired case and had headspace issues and tight chambers and that was after giving CA a chance to supposedly fix the 6.5.

Did CA ever give you a reason on why it was happening?

As for not shooting that rifle, only you can make that decision. But dual ejector marks are a known and common characteristic of CA rifles. I don't see cratered or flattened primers which would be a better indication of excessive pressure. The carbon ring can and should be addressed but likely has nothing to do with the ejector marks.

I too believe it's a carbon ring due to lack of proper cleaning and smears off brass from dual ejectors.

Once it's totally cleaned of all carbon, copper and brass I would make sure there is not any brass residue jamming either of the ejector/springs.

Having delt with several single ejectors in CA rifles of friends, I found the springs to be too strong and trimming spring length solved both problems. Having dual ejectors seems over kill and dual springs may cause case head smearing regardless of over pressure

From the smears on brass, I would pull both ejectors and clean all residue inside the bolt for sure after carbon ring is gone. The OP's scope also shows brass residue and carbon building up at case/shoulder area.

Fair enough, I will take your word for it but that gun is seriously messed up. Do not shoot it any more. No need to figure out what is wrong, that is the makers issue.
Thank you for you info. I troubleshoot failures with heavy equipment for a living and I guess I always need to figure out the why it's happening. I guess it's the one of the down fall I have

I forgot the terminology they used on the repair but it said it was a chambering issue. They won't admit to wrong doing for obvious liability reasons.

Edit: I forgot I suspected a primary extraction issue on the 6.5 as well. Here's the response I found:

1. INSPECTED AND CLEANED RIFLE. (NO VISABLE ISSUES FOUND)
2. TEST FIRED (HAD SLIGHT EXTRACTION ISSUE BUT NOTHING MAJOR)
3. POLISHED THE CHAMBER AND HEAD SPACED
4. TEST FIRED (NO EXTRACTION ISSUES FOUND)
5. CLEANED AND DID FINAL INSPECTION (NO ISSUES FOUND)

Just for clarification was this a new gun or a new gun to you? (Meaning used but new to you). Was there more rounds down the barrel than just the 90+-?
