7mm SAUM Build Help

My 7 SAUM is built on a REM 700 Long action you will need a magnum bolt face, I'm shooting 180 Gr Berger Hybrids with Retumbo 63.7 Gr, MV is a little over 3000 FPS, free bore is 0.172, shoots .25 MOA at 100 Yds, Bartlien 26" Carbon Fiber 7.5 twist. You will have to convert the magazine for the longer COAL for a repeater.

Does running a COAL of 3.1 seem to be the go-to when running the long actions?

175 Elite Hunters/180 Hybrids

I built a 20 inch 7 saum with a .195 freebore for the 180 vlds. They sit really well and could likely run then out to a .210 fb very well.

I've done very little tuning as I received it just before deer season and the 180 hybrid is doing 2800 and 1 inch at 300 yards with H1k and 210Ms.

Going to run a ladder with H1k and H4350 under the 150 grain bulldozer II's. Not the long range capability of the 180s but a great compromise for mid range and velocity.

Built on an An-Ti LA in an AG stock and CF barrel. With the bipod, ultra 7 and VX6 it weighs just under 9 pounds.

What is your COAL with the 180 Hybrids?

Your cbto is more important than coal for measuring lands. Coal is important for magazine length.

Very good info, thanks guys!

So for those of you with longer than sammi spec freebores, did you build up a round and send to the barrel maker, or did you decide on the amount of freebore via some other method?

I sent mine in with dummy rounds. The problem is the rounds weren't the only dummy and the gunsmith did the freebore at .120" instead of .020". The gun is still a shooter luckily!

My smith had a sammi spec and .195 FB reamer. He trys lots of reamers and said the 195 had been a great reamer for them. I trusted him as I normally do and went that direction.

Whoa! I understand if you dont want to say, but from the pic you posted it looks like you might have an OMR barrel - would my guess be correct? (Again, if you dont mind sharing)

Perfect - appreciate it! Out of curiosity who made the barrel/blank?

Yeah it was Lee with Oregon mountain rifles.

I've got a Tikka build, 7saum 22" barrel. It was finicky with the 180 hybrid but shoots the 180 HVLD lights out. 2950 with H1000. I forget the freebore but can get the COAL and CTBO
