Seems like a standard Rem700 action you can get from just about anywhere. Not an offensive price either.

do they do something to it or is it as it comes from the factory?

Appeared pretty standard , but big question for me was the trigger ? I know it's a matter of preference but if it's on par with savage accutrigger I would be pleased with it. But if I'd have to replace it then my "budget build " might be better starting elsewhere.

Anytime you see Xmark, just know you're going to be replacing the trigger. Unless you like heavy, inconsistent pulls, then by all means keep it. As mentioned above, you can get a trued action from a few places for not much more than that. Or you can get a used "donor" rifle and have a smith true the action for you. I did that with a few rifles- used donors and new unused actions, but had them trued by my smith. Then I spun on some Criterion remage barrels and added my preferred stock/trigger....all shoot 1/2" or better at 100 yards all day long with a little load development.

For a "budget" build, what I did is a good way to go and a lot of people have done it with great success.

If you're like me, though, after some experimenting, you unfortunately prefer some of the features on a custom action, and now I just can't do the standard Rem700 anymore, though I do think it is a fantastic platform to build on.

I'll check Northland out , I personally had no experience with the X-mark is why I ask. I'm wrapping up a "not so budget 280AI " now and got the bug to start another but upcoming wedding and funds don't allow same components as the 280 and I have some friends getting interested in more budget friendly builds is why I ask. Thanks guys

In just bought the same thing from Midway for $336 and yes your gonna need a trigger

The Xmark is horrible, and keep in mind im no trigger snob either. I put a trigger tech special in and find it almost too light.

I rate the X mark way, way below the savage (especially the target model) and even way below the modified ruger american. It really is a piece of crap, id be embarrassed if I was the design engineer. As a consumer,I would prefer they knock $20 off the price and ship it without a trigger assembly instead.

I have a couple of dozen Remington 700 rifles in a different calibers. The ones that came with the XMark Pro triggers are all in a box under my work bench. With the exception of the guns that George Vias built for me and worked his magic on the factory triggers, the rest of them all wear Timney triggers. Some people say you cannot adjust a factory trigger to compete with a custom trigger (hunting trigger not target trigger) BS you can if you know what your doing.

Sorry that did not come out right, the triggers are under my work bench not the rifles.

I would never use any type of factory Remington trigger once you had a Remington moment and you realize what could've happened( luckily it didn't happen to me) a couple hundred bucks is nothing compared to a life taken by accident or something else

And yes mine was the X Mark Pro not the Walker trigger
