25-06 Harvest Thread

a fan here as well of the 25-06. Too many deer to count but took this last year to add to the continuously growing list:

I have two that my dad built. One for himself and one for my uncle. My uncles has past, but dad is still around.

Neither has been shot by me. Last game animal my dad shot was typical for our experience with the 25-06. I had to track it down.

That said it's been 20 years since the last time it was hunted with so bullets were not what they are today. So I'm sure the results are better.

Dad hunted with one of my 6.5 Grendel this past season after 20 years of not shooting anything...I still had to track it down! LOL

Makes me wonder if it wasnt the shooter and not the caliber that was the issue! o_O o_O ;) :)

Been thinking about breaking his rifle out and get it tuned up for him to hunt with this fall...just have him show up at the lease and see that is what he will hunt with again!

25-06 was my only gun through college years. It was my sons elk rifle for his first couple of elk. Ive killed everything from coyotes to elk with it from Colorado to Mexico. I will Always will have one in the safe. Mine loves 115 BT around 3100 FPS

Congrats on your hunt, nice bear
What bullet combo did your shoot your elk with? I'm interested in a 25-06.

When I first got the gun I used 117 Sierra game kings with IMR 4831. I killed a few deer and Barbary sheep with that load. I switched to 115 Nosler ballistic Tips, IMR 4831 averages FPS 3080. With that load we killed approximately 5 elk, shots range from 400 down to 50 yards, all 1 shot kills. 4831 has been the most accurate powder for me, R 25 and Retumbo generate great speeds but I could get consistent accuracy with them like I can with 4831. If I was going to use for elk today i would likely look into 110 accubonds

The gun somehow always finds its way out of the safe going on a hunt despite the fact I have "much better" (wink) cartridge choice for all occasions now days

I bought one of the first Rem 700 Senderos when they were released in 25-06. It was and remains the most accurate factory rifle I have ever owned. As many others have stated, mine shot the 115 BTs at 3100 with incredible accuracy. I killed many deer with it as well as coyotes, crows and lots of prairie dogs. I never could figure an accurate round count but the barrel lasted way longer than I deserved considering how much PD shooting I subjected it to. I once shot a 10 round group at 100 yards using 75gr VMAXs that I could cover with a nickle. It also accounted for four PDs at over 1000 yards and one crow at 935 on a single trip to North Dakota. When the accuracy finally went south a few years back, I rebarrelled it to 280AI. It is a good shooter but nothing like the 25-06 was.

My first rifle was a Savage 110 25-06. I picked it up used when I was 17 years old. Didn't know it when I bought it but it's got a barrel on it that's worth more then I paid for the whole rifle. I've killed 10 mule deer bucks, a black bear and an elk with it. Favorite gun still to today.

I had a 30-06 rebarreled to 25-06 about ten years ago and love it. It has shot Pronghorns, Whitetails and Muleys and never let me down. I am looking forward to getting a trigger problem handled soon, so I can use it on Pronghorn next season. I have been shooting 120 grain Speer boattails backed with H4831sc. I have some 120 Nosler partitions to try soon.

Here's my Cooper decked out with a 6.5 X 20 Leupy VX-3 and a Ken Farrel Rail. Heavy rig to stalk with, so pretty much reserved for elevated blind hunts or off a bipod. No reason not to have at least 2 of these so I think I got my eye on a Finnlight for my second .25-06.

I have one as well, stock Vanguard S2 with the trigger switched out for a Timney. Out of the box it shot the 100Gr Barnes Vor-Tx load so well I have never done anything else to it. It will literally put 5 in a quarter @100yds, consistently, even when I rapid fired (As fast as I could work the bolt, sight and shoot). 3 deer, 2 antelope and a coyote thus far.

I have been a little hesitant to use it on elk but considering my recent ranges (Less that 250 yards past two years) and the success others have had, I may change that!

By far my favorite to shoot with the mild recoil and the fact the rifle is so accurate it seems effortless!
