Which boots?

Do you have any experience with the crispi west river 400 from scheels? just saw them and they have good reviews
I don't have any first hand experience with the West Rivers but have heard good things and just know Crispi makes a quality boot, no matter what version.

I mentioned the meindls because they're below the price point you stipulated... not a $400+ boot, but in the same performance range as those. Just fyi

Going on my first elk hunt next fall, gonna buy a pair of boots here in the next week or so to be able to get them broke in this season. Kennetrek, crispi etc are out of my price range. Wanting to stay under $300. Going to be going during 3rd rifle season in Colorado. I'm thinking a 400 or 600 gram boot with a heated insole that I can turn on when I get where I'm going. I think 1000 is too much because my feet sweat bad. I do have merino socks already also

mainly looking at the danner powderhorn, danner elk hunter or the Irish setter elk tracker.

who has experience with these or recommendations for others in this price range? I mainly hunt whitetails in MO and the only hunting boots I've worn for the last 10 years are my muck woody elites so any advise is appreciated.

I have been elk hunting with Danner Pronghorns for the last 15ish years. You dont have to spend $300-$500 on elk hunting boots. My pronghorns have never let me down and I have hunted hard in them.

$100 more and you could get a pair that will actually make your hunt enjoyable.

I sold boots at Cabelas for 3 years. I'd try like hell to convince ppl to buy the Miendl Perfekts (because at that time we didn't sell kenetrek, Krispi, Schnees, etc). I can't tell you how many ppl bought danner pronghorns that's came back within weeks to upgrade. Untold numbers of ppl that went on hunts and had bad experiences because they skimped on one of the two most important aspects of any western hunt (optics and boots).

good luck.

well, this is evidence of unicorns. The original pronghorns were great, they were made of quality materials, comfortable and held up a few seasons for hard hunting. Once they outsourced to China, they became useless shams imo.

the bad thing is that they feel great in the store, so ppl buy them..... they fail almost immediately and are too weak to provide any ankle support.

Hoffman Lineman 13" Pac Highline Leather/Rubber if your walking... or the
Kenetrek Cowboy 13" Pac Boots Leather/Rubber riding in
and hunting more from horseback.

Boots are your most important tool, bad ones ruin your whole hunt. You need to match the stiffness of the boot to your terrain as well. I.E. - In AK I needed a much stiffer sole as the terrain was steeper (lots of side-hilling).

I really like my Crispi Guides, great versatile boot that I have not had one blister in! Still running the factory insoles to, which for me is unique, I have always needed an upgrade there.

BlackOvis and Camofire are two places to keep an eye for sales....
