Scope power for 1,760y ?

Considering my age at 62 more power is always helpful. I run the Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56, F1 and the 5-25x56, F1. If I run into mirage, different atmospheric conditions or I just don't need that much power but need to see a wider field of view I can always dial them down.

With that much travel and holdover I better be able to lob a .30-30 out to a mile

Lol ya figure 50-60 of turret and 40 moa on the reticle.... pretty decent setup... i just cant decide between the 18x or the 30x ....if i turn the 30 down to 20 then i lose 1/2 the reticle... with the 18x i just keep on18 and get 100% of the reticle and a few moa more in turrets.....BUT its only 18x.....

My longest hit to date was at 1.1 miles. 1935 yards is what I came up with in my measurement, which is 1 yard shy of a true 1.1 miles but I rounded up. There was likely more than a yard of error, plus or minus, in the range finder and the multiple ranging points I had to use to measure it. Easier just to say 1.1.

change to burris signature tactcial and you can add 40 moa and not scratch your scope

I shoot 300 gr E hunter bullets in my Lapua at 2930 FPS . according to JBM at 1750 yards I need 53.2 MOA . I have a 8-32 NXS scope . I run out of turret elevation around 1480 yards , I forget the exact distance . I'd need a bigger scope rail to keep dialing , I'm using a 20 moa .

With FFP is shouldn't matter. At 18 power on the 18x scope or at 18 power on the 30x scope, if it's the exact same reticle, all the subtensions and both reticles will be identical and you will see the exact same amount of said reticle. That's the beauty of FFP scopes.

Right, i wrote that a little wrong, the subtensions on the turnd down scope are harder to eyeball, thats what i meant .... either way i can find arguements for both and its a hard decision, especially when your dropping$2k or better.....

I've used 6-24 and a 10-40x at our mile shoots, but depending on weather and mirage conditions, the 40x may see little use. Usually, I will set it at 25-30x. We use a 19" square for 1 mile, and it is a nice challenge that makes one focus on their skill set.

Whats everyones opinion on optimum scope power for 1 mile (1,760y) shooting and why? Just wondering what everyone is running on their ELR rifles, the Burris XTR III 5.5-30x56 looks like the perfect choice for this application.....any thoughts?

20X works just fine. 25X is about perfect to be honest.
I have killed a deer at over 1000 on 14X because of conditions but I would have like to have left my ATACR on 25.

Nightforce Competition 15-55x52, FCR1reticle.

I find the fine 1/8"adjustments more suitable for ELR, and the extra magnafacion helps spot hits/misses.

It does but the issue becomes travel. Your not shooting over 1760 yards and dialing it directly and your not even making it to 1250 with most cartridges
