Whats everyones opinion on optimum scope power for 1 mile (1,760y) shooting and why? Just wondering what everyone is running on their ELR rifles, the Burris XTR III 5.5-30x56 looks like the perfect choice for this application.....any thoughts?

what are you shooting ?
how big is your target ?
aim small miss small
i have shot( and hit consitently) at 1790 with a 5-22x-56 nightforce.

10 but no more than 15 power.
15 for shooting a milk jug at that distance which is 10.5hx4w

Bench shooters will disagree but their displine of choice is different.

It all depends on what your target it. If it's big game hunting it's hard to beat the 22 or 32 power nxs nightforce scopes. If it's shooting paper or steel 50 55 or 60 power comes in handy on days you can use the full magnification. Although alot of the time I have my nightforce comp and Marchs turned down to 40 power for clarity and mirage is usually a pain. For the price if your shooting paper or steel it's hard to beat a nf 42br model scope, although to get that range doped in will require a higher moa riser base. The br dosent have alot of internal adjustment.

I shoot a lot of ELR with my .338LM. In the price you want to stay iat the Razor HD Gen 1 would be my choice. With a 20 moa rail and 20 moa base you will be able to zero at 100 yards and maximize the turret travel. With the HD having 35 mils of travel you will be able to dial well over 1 mile. I have both the PST 4X16 and Razor 5X20 and have used both over 1 mile with out issue. What rifle will you be using??

Im using a savage stealth 338lm.... i looked at vortex, glass isnt really that great so i ruled it out, ... the new burris xtr iii has 120 moa of travel +40 on the reticle for holdover which should be sufficient plus some for 1760....

I shoot 300 gr E hunter bullets in my Lapua at 2930 FPS . according to JBM at 1750 yards I need 53.2 MOA . I have a 8-32 NXS scope . I run out of turret elevation around 1480 yards , I forget the exact distance . I'd need a bigger scope rail to keep dialing , I'm using a 20 moa .

I've used a 16X to reach out to 1.1 on a 20" disc. It's doable but if you're in the market for a scope and want to shoot out that far very often, then I'd recommend a bit more magnification. If you'll only use the gun for this purpose then go with as much as you can afford. If you plan to do some hunting or closer range stuff as well the 5-25 range scopes seem ideal to me. Lots of scopes for sale in that category too so plenty to choose from.

1.1 miles or 1.1k yards?
