Most Efficient 7mm Cartridge for 195 EOL Elite Hunter???

7mm sberman short will push 195 @ 2950ish from a 26" pipe with 59gr rl26! And thats in a short action 2.9" oal. Throat it with 220fb and build on a long action, yoully be pushing the case, but a long neck and 40° shoulder, best throat life you'll get at this performance level. I'm contemplating one, or a 7 blaser improved.

Sorry everyone. I was gone on a week long coues hunt, and haven't been back to my computer until today. My 7 mag does it again with the 175 eldx. 502 yards shoot to distance, and 581 yards line of sight. One shot right in the boiler room, through the top of his back. He was facing me going down hill, so I put one through the middle of his shoulder blades. Took out both lungs, and the heart. Sorry no pics of the insides. Never recovered the bullet as it exited. Finally broke the 100" mark with this buck, scoring an official 101 5/8". Not big enough to make book (105"), but big enough to make it to the taxidermist. Lol.

Nice! With results like that I'm not sure you need more rifle lol. Of course we always do want more lol.

I am a great fan of the 7-300 WM otherwise known as the 7mm Practical. Everything is easy with this cartridge.
@ENGUNEER what is the neck length on your formed 7-300wm cases? I like the 90gr capacity and almost 28 nosler speeds. However after neck down, I'd think the necks would only be .250 long.

The 7-300 and the 7mm practical are NOT the same cartridge. I continue to see members of this forum posting bad information and I am not sure why. The 7-300 has roughly a .270 neck and the shoulder angle remains unchanged from the 300 Win. The 7mm Practical has a .300 neck and a 30 degree shoulder. The 7-300 only requires a 300 win bushing die. The practical requires special dies for full length sizing. Either can use 300 win mag seaters. I can not see the added value in the practical(not so practical) over a straight 7-300. I never ran 195s in my 7-300s but 180 Hybrids would easily go 3165(accuracy node).

I've got 2 7 Wby's I'm shooting the 195's out of. 2950 - 3050 easy out of a 26 inch barrel, pressures maxed out around 3100+. One on a Mark V action, one on a Stryker action. Just got a 3rd on a Defiance action I'll be trying the 195 in as well. Accuracy has been great and my brass life is great too. I'm at 9 firings with minimal losses so far.

What is your barrel twist? Can you please provide load detail?

Thanks

Does anyone have any information with the 195 EOL in a 7 mag, and H1000? I'm thinking of giving the 195 a shot in my 7 mag. I have an 8 twist barrel, which should stabilize the 195 just fine. If I can get 2850 fps out of the 195 in my 7 mag, I might just play around for a bit. Any other powders I might experiment with? I'd like to stick with a temperature stable powder too. Thanks again for all the replies so far.

Send Berger an email asking for load data for your cartridge, bullet, and powder choice. They should be able to provide you with some load data.

Two powders I would strongly recommend would be IMR 7828 SSC and 7977.

Thank you. Any recommended starting points with the 7828 or 7977?

I called Berger, and they gave me H1000 and Retumbo data. They claim I can get to 2800+ fps with Retumbo. And that's with a relatively short COAL. If I can seat the bullet out far enough, I might be able to reach 2850. I'm pretty excited.

I have not tried the 195's in my 7mmRM, so I can't give you a super accurate starting point... But, I can tell you this...

7977 is ****-near identical in burn rate to H1000, so I would start about 1.5 to 2 grains lower than what they told you for H1000, and work up from there.

For 7828 SSC, I would start about 2.5 to 3 grains less than 7977.

I have never had any luck with Retumbo in anything... Some folks do, but I haven't.
