Marine snipers dump .308 Win, adopt .300 Win Mag

.300 Blackout or .458 SOCOM for our M4s we don't shoot that far in combat anyway.

300 win mag is a time tested,tried and proven cartridge. Now if only lapua would make brass for it...

Definitely no slouch in the ballistics department and the army is already shooting the same cartridge so they might as well simplify logistics.

This really isn't anything new to the corps. My brother is a usmc sniper and operated in Iraq between 2004 and 2008. They had rifles chambered in 300wm at this time it was just not adopted as the (standard).

They are testing the 190s and 220s. Having issues with pressure though. Being built by Crane not PWS.

The A6 is not going away. Too expensive and they know barrel life will suffer. They will be fielded in addition to the A6, 4 and 4 in the battalions. I'm sure the "they" units will get what they need as it should be.

I would like to see a switch barrel. 308/300wm.

Leave to the military to put a worked over Remington 700 barreled action into a $4,000 chassis chambered in 300wm when an Accuracy International in 338lm would be a better weapon system. Its sad when the UK, Canadian, and Aussie snipers are better equipped than my beloved Marine Corps.
