Performance between the two should be very close and might boil down to personal choice/preference, belted vs non-belted cartridge, old vs new (fad, cool factor), etc,. Regardless which one you end up with, IIWY I'd go with at least 26" 1:8" (or faster) barrel.

Depending on source document, case capacity on both is the same or close (93.8 H2O).

28 Nolser cases are excellent. The case head is about .060 thicker than Lapua cases, they hold serious pressure. The neck thickness runout is the best I have seen on un-turned cases. You could not give me a belted anything. I like to run high pressures and need to be able to size my cases all the way down. Just had a customer bring some brass by and his 300WM. 2 firings on Norma cases and they are toast, 3 different dies would not size the case far enough down to eliminate tight bolt close. Larry Willis die hopefully will fix it. No thanks to all that. And Im not just telling you to go that way because I own one, so that makes it better. I dont own either.

Never had any problem with any of my belted cartridges. Regardless, it still boils down to personal preference.

I would go with the 7 STW. As Mud says, proven record. My STW shoots the 195 grain Bergers at 2980 FPS well under 1/2 moa with a pretty mild load. It consistently groups in the .3's at 100 yards. Brass is relatively easy to come by as well.

On my Elk hunt we compared our two loads with another hunter...One had a Gunwerks 28 Nosler and I think it was a 168 Berger @ 3125 fps...Mine was a 270 Wby shooting a 170 Berger @3225fps 28" barrel...

We compared the two cartridges...The 270 Wby had a steeper shoulder and a longer neck...it looked like the COAL was about the same...

Holding them in your hand...they almost looked identical...except for the shoulder and the neck...

I am still sticking with Roy...

Cool thing...he had the yardage dial on his Nightforce...the guides called the range and he dialed his scope...

The STW should just be laid to rest, I've rebarreled many to 28 Nosler and none so far have any interest in going back to the old turd. I've built quite a number of 7-300 wins and it's a good round also, a little slower, little longer overall length, less neck.

If you know your exact load data, and it's proven, you can get those for just about any scope.

In one word CLASSY. The 7STW will do what either of the other two will do, but the STW been doing it for years with no fan fair. I've owned many 7mm cartridges, all perform outstanding. I'm building a 28 Nosler as we type. Why? I don't know why, guess I just have to have one to find out for myself.

What does the stw offer that the other 2 don't?
