I recently replaced a Tikka T3X .300WM sporter barrel with a factory take-off barrel that was threaded so I could shoot suppressed. Upon checking the headspace, the bolt closed on a go-gauge, but also closed on a no-go gauge. However, upon adding a piece of scotch tape (roughly another .002") to the no-go, the bolt would not close. Is this acceptable headspace? I've seen one other instance of a Proof pre-fit that bolt closed on .004" past the go-gauge but not .006". The internet seems to say SAAMI acceptable headspace is within .010" of go-gauge.
So, that makes me wonder how many factory rifles the bolt would close on a no-go gauge that is made to be .004-.006" longer than the go-gauge.
Anybody have any experiences checking the headspace on Tikkas, or do most people just ignorantly screw them on and shoot trusting the internet says it would work?
