Short Barrel (20”) 300WSM Question

Has anyone on here had a short barrel 300wsm? I'm rebarreling a rifle and want to go with a 20-22" barrel. I want to shoot 190vlds or 200eldx and get 2800fps or better. Do you think this is feasible? Thanks.
I had a 300wsm built 15 years ago by Tactical Rifles in Florida on an M40 action and it still shoots less than 1/2". I'm not by any means a long range Shooter and don't reload, but my longest harvest was 460 yards on an antelope in Wyoming with factory ammo. My only complaint is that it's heavier than I expected for a 20" fluted barrel.

What powder are most of you running in your 20"-22" barrels. Would it be beneficial to go to a little faster during powder for 200g+ projectiles?
Reloder 16 has been working well from 168-190's in my 21" tikka. I want to try RL23 some time.

I recently started picking up stuff to build a 300wsm...I was trying to decide between 18-22"...thanks, y'all talked me into 20". Yes, it'll be suppressed 99.9% of the time. Life is too short to hunt unsuppressed ;)

I was thinking 180 grain Accubond...I'm sure availability will play a huge role in what I end up with.

I'm building a 21 inch 300wsm. I may or may not shoot it with a thunderbeast ultra 7 and if I recall from their chart 18inches is the shortest they recommend/warranty. So I figured 21 gives you a bit of safety margin.

You're lucky it's a shooter. A lot of people have had issues with TR.

How do you like those? I bought a couple boxes recently.
Pretty accurate so far, 4 shots within 1" at 100 yards. I need to do some more testing with them. When TargetSports had them, they were about the same price as new Norma brass so I just bought a case of ammo instead. I'll know more after I have a couple boxes down the pipe. It's a relatively new to me rifle and I haven't taken the time to wring it out.

I built the ar10 300 wsm in my avatar. I used a 20 barrel with Polygonal rifling. It shoots 5 shot ragged hole groups at 200 yards. 20 inches will be fine I shoot the 175 Controlled Chaos and it comes out at 2,879. The same load out of my target rifle with a 27 inch barrel at 3,071. So I lose 192fps. The elk in the photo was taken at 182 yards and was DRT. The Chaos bullets just work as they are designed. 1 exit hole and we found 4 petals that had sliced heart an both lungs.

Got a 20 inch 300 WSM for Elk hunting. I am running 180 Berger Elite at 2900 fps with H 4350...

My results were similar, I got the 200 Eld-x up to 2900 in my Christensen Ridgeline (24") with max loads but the accuracy wasn't there until I dropped back down to 2800. Using StaBall 6.5. I think your goal might be doable with a different powder/primer combo. Win magnum primers generally give me a 30fps bump over federal
Got a Ridgeline on the way in 300wsm. Any issues with accuracy or feeding? How's the recoil

Yes, the .300 WSM is very capable! I am shooting 215s at 2800 FPS with 24" using RL-17. RL26 will give you more velocity.

I have a 22" 300 WSM with a proof research barrel and a fuzion action. I was getting 2700 FPS with the 199 hammer hunters and I am getting 3100 FPS with the 166 HH. With the longer bullets and the short throat, you will want more freebore and longer mag capacity if you want to maximize those longer heavier bullets. I ultimately conceded and shot the 166 because out to 800 yards I wasn't seeing a benefit at my velocities. I would expect you to get about 2800 from the 190 grain lead bullets. Just be aware of the freebore and build the rifle to accommodate the OAL you want with the bullet you want to shoot.
