Quilted 20 Bobcat

Customer sent me a complete barreled action chambered in 20 Bobcat and wanted something different.
I pulled out a quilted Maple blank and made this stock.
I went through a laborious process of dying, sanding, dying, sanding.... using different dyes.
Finished it up with some hand rubbed tung oil for a pleasant satin finish.
He's sending the metal off for melonite, which will make a more pleasing theme.

Simply amazing....when I saw the first pic I thought some one did a great job of hydro dipping. Then to see that it was a piece of wood.....just WOW!!!!!!

Truth be told, I got tired of moving this blank around the shop for the past 18-20 years.. I never though it had enough figure in the forend to amount to anything, so I gifted it to him. The dye made it come to life.

I'm so glad you posted what the blank looked like before you put any stain or dye on it as it didn't look like 'much' to get excited about, but then we get to see the finished results and...WOW! Amazing. And you gifted it to him?! You are like the best Santa Claus ever.

That is breathtakingly beautiful. I never knew such a wood existed. Excellent work, and to gift it to someone? That person must be a great customer indeed!
