My Son-in-laws Christmas Present

[QUOTE="pburton, My son in law is a good kid that works really hard. He takes really good care of my daughter. ... hope he stays that way."

Clearly in your story we see and hear the values and example you and your dear wife live every day. Clearly your daughter has chosen her beloved based upon the qualities she has seen in you and your wife, her Mom.

To have loving and contributive parents is a blessing for a daughter and an extraordinary form of grace for a son-in-law.

Thank you for sharing this endearing story. I hope you might include a follow-up remark about his expression --- the exhilaration and gratitude we would each feel --- upon the opening of this wonderful gift.

My son in law is a good kid that works really hard. He takes really good care of my daughter. But, he doesn't have a lot of money. About three months ago we were talking about hunting. Him and his family are hunters. He showed me his hunting rifle, which consisted of a Rem 710 .270 with an old Bushnell scope. We took it to the range and I couldn't shoot any less than 3" groups. So, I went home and loaded some rounds for it. The best I could get was 1.5-2" groups at 100. Oh ya, he is a lefty shooting a right handed rifle. He is definitely left eye dominant.

After the day at the range, my wife and I started talking about his crappy rifle. My wife's answer was "build him one like yours". God if she knew the price tag on that, she wouldn't be saying that, I thought. She asked what would it cost? I was a bit hesitant, but I said, "probably around $2500 without optics." To my surprise she was all for it. To make a long story short, here is his Christmas gift: Rem 700, 300 Win mag, Brux barrel, Trigger Tech trigger, McMillan stock, Terminator muzzle brake, and HS precision bottom metal. Barreled action built by LRI. Stock work, including paint, done by me.
He's a good kid, hope he stays that way.

Sounds to me like he has pretty good in-laws as well. That's a sweet looking rig. Kinda wish we would have video of the unveiling. I wouldn't be surprised to see some tears. I'm sure he will be very happy. Merry Christmas sir. I'm sure it will be a good one.

I will definitely let everyone know his response. Thank you for the kind words!

Can I join your family - LOL. Have a friend like you and you should see some of the firearms his children, grand children and great grand children now have!
Actually, I'm getting at that age were most of my "hunting" is restricted to "sitting down somewhere". Prarrie dog, hogs, deer and those hard to hit "paper" critters, all from a bench or stand. I have been giving my firearms to my family. I try to fit the firearm to the person. I want them to be used, not wall hangers. And yes, if my wife knew how much I spend building these, I would be living with the dog outside. Just gave my best friend's son a 6.5 Grendel, had close to $4,000 in to the build with optics.
