MagnetoSpeed???

I'd get it closer. Have used Magnetospeed for years and using the square aluminum spacer supplied is the best way to figure height below bore. If too high it won't read reliably. I used the straps for years and they work fine. You have to play with them a little to get them set up but they work. I got a Wiser Precision mount this past year to hook to ARCA and it works great. Easy to adjust when going from rifle to rifle.

Wiser Precision, makes an excellent carbon fiber system (I'v 2 of them), for attaching the Magneto Speed Sporter, using 1913 and ARCA.

LR Rifles ain't cheap, don't put janky stuff together and expect proper results/data!
 
I got to the range today with my homemade mount. I did get more material off the body over the weekend and have a gap of 1/4" now. It works great, very solid and stable. I said in a previous post that the wiser mount would be the ticket if I shot multiple rifles, I don't, so this is perfect for my needs.
