What is the longest rifle shot ever made or the longest anyone knows of? I don't mean sniper combat shots. If you Google "longest rifle shot" all you get is sniper shots. I believe the longest combat shot is about 3,070 yards. But I know there are guys that have made longer shots on paper/prairie dogs/milk jugs etc. So what's the longest non-combat shot you know of?

All I know is the army tested the 45/70 out to 2 miles in the late 1800s at Sandy Hook. Must have been quite the arc but if I recall they hit nose first.

"If I recall"...you mean....YOU WERE THERE!!!! Awsome. :D

My dad killed a buck out of our shooting stand here in ND from the 14th hole at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, AZ (he was on a golf cart)....1800+ miles.

7MM, 180 JLK @ 3050. I don't recall the dial up or the windage he used. The bullet did not exit.

Some days I do feel that old. LOL:D But if you think about shooting a lead ball with black powder 2 miles it's probably more amazing than the youtube showing the 12' square target with a new sniper round, high power scope etc IMHO
