Do you need a special die to remove the primers out of LC LR brass?

I use a dedicated depriming die just in case one is extra tight. You will need a primer pocket swage before priming with new primers. Dillon Precision has a good one.

I use a Lee size die to punch out the crimped in primers. Their de-capping pins are tough and the way the die is made if it won't push the primer out it pushes the de-capping rod up in the die so you can re-adjust it and it does not break. Yes you will have to remove the crimp after you punch out the primer. If you are not doing a great deal of cases you can use your inside the neck champher too to remove it. I bought a RCBS swage tool that fits my press to do large batches.

Roger that. I was just advised to do likewise so as to no break the decapping pins in normal reloading dies. So I purchased the Lee decapping punch and base. In the past week I've decapped 1000 Lake City once fired brass cases in 5.56. Lee will replace anything that breaks forever and ever. It's a toughened up decapping tool designed to get those crimped in primers out and keep on ticking like a Timex.

It's 1000 for 1000 so far.

Mine's a Sinclair not sure if it breaks what the warranty is but if they won't make good then I'll get a Lee. Thanks for sharing.
