I am wanting to start loading for my new 30/06 rem 700 long range rifle. I want to use the Barnes bullet but not sure that is the right choice. I am work toward a good long range elk load. I am wanting to use the Barnes bullet because I really like it in mu 35 rem rifles, but maybe that's not the right one for the 06. Open for all the help I can get.

u didn't specify which bullet u want to use tsx lrx etc.i personally prefer 165 gr.and up for elk a good accurate 180gr. Load would be ideal

To what distances? No one can accurately help you pic the most appropriate bullet for your needs until distance and impact velocity is considered.

Jeff, I just got done reading the 215 vs 210 berger thread and I saw you chime in here about a 30-06. I my self am looking at the new 700 long range in 30-06 and it looks like it might be a nice platform to launch the 215 bergers. I just got 200 yesterday. My question is, do you have any experience loading the 215 in a 30-06?

I ran a search for this and all I could come up with is a couple people that run Rl17 and 22. I have neither powder. I have Retumbo, H4831, RL25&33, Would you load any of these in an '06? Thanks for your time.

Brandon

I am not sure which bullet or powder, but yes I did want to go with a 180 gr. I want to be able to shoot 500yr at least. I have read that the Barnes bullet needs to be at 1800ft on impact.

I am not sure what powder yet, but I usually start with the highest velocity and lowest pressure. Thank you.

I want to shot at least 500yr. Yes I have read that the Barnes needs to be at 1800 on impact. But I thought I needed a 180gr to keep up enough energy and still have enough speed. Thank you for getting back with me.

gun)I live in California,we have to use copper bullets in some parts the state. I use Barnes , they have a high price. I suggest 30 cal 165or 168 gr,with barnes bullets you can use a lighter bullet. 150gr is to light and 180gr too heavy for long range in the'06.

I like superformance powders imr 4350-4064-4831 all can get u at 2800-2950 with 180s that'll bust a elk at that range check out some of 200gr.offerings and get good rangefinder you can reach out and bust them a little farther

the 180 is not to heavy in the 06 for longrange I would actually go even heavier 200 or even 215gr. In the 06 especially if u roll your own if u have a modern and quality rifle u don't have to go by the lawyered up reloading data just be realistic and watch ur primers and case heads for pressure

I'd use their 175 gr bullet and H4350 powder and attempt to get an accurate load in the neighborhood of 2800 fps.
