Small bull front shoulder at 586. Left the barrel at 2980.
Red hind head shot straight on bullet blew the jaw off then passed through the neck into the chest and out the shoulder at 550m.
338 edge 300gr elite hunter @ 2865fps
Gosh the tree huggers would love that picture.
How big do the Hind get ? I know the Stags get upwards of over 400 lbs. Curious about the weight of the Hinds.
Hinds weight about 260 lbs, I have only shot 18 deer and 30+ goat with the Berger’s and all pretty quick kills, some have fist size exit holes. 940m is the farthest I’ve shot a deer so far.
Happy with the performance of 300gr elite hunters, time will tell as I’ve only had this rifle 12 months.
It's a Hammer !!!
My go too edge bullet too. 10+ elk at 750 or farther and nothing even thought about another step. Love those Berger's!
Just another thing I remembered. I had a piece of 3/8 regular steel plate. Hung it at 980....tree line prevented the other 20... theses bullets passed through it. I figured that far and it being a swinging set up it wouldn’t, but it did. Never had one pass though an animal though. Always in a bit and seemingly grenade. Messy but can’t say it’s ever let me down or anything gone far if anywhere.
Considering that at 1k yards, that 300 grain bullet is still moving over 2000 fps and carries almost 3k ft lbs energy. It's definitely no surprise that it would penetrate a 3/8" steel plate.
They are hard on 1/2” plate too. 735 yard
I have a 3/8”, 24”x24”, AR500 plate. The closest I have shot my .338 Lapua was at 500 yards. I Have never had a pass through and or craters. I can say my plate looks to be ever so slightly con-caved when looking down at it from the top. Launching the 300 EOL at 2842 FPS.
That plate above was probably not hardened AR steel. Looks pretty soft but still it's 1/2" steel at almost 800 yards. At almost 3000 ft lbs at 1000 yards, the 300 Berger is a sledge hammer.
Here is the exit from 524yard shoulder shot on a whitetail buck quartering slightly with a 300gr Berger a few years ago. It also punches holes through some 1/4” mild steel disc that I have set up at a mile. Mv 2800fps
I have shot 3/8 ar500 at 400 yards and never dimpled the steel on a 12” plate. Also doesn’t seem to do any damage to 1/2” ar500 10” plate at 300 yards. I have found if it’s a swinger and you hit the bottom it will spin around about 4-6 times before stopping at 300-400yards. Also starts to warp brackets and rip targets off the stands depending on how heavy they are built. Closet I have shot was 1/2” ar500 is at 200 yards and I don’t remember it doing any damage to the plate but it was a 3” plate that didn’t put up much resistance and was immediately ripped off the stand. It dimples my 5/8 mild steel 3x3” plate at 750 pretty hard but this plate is stationary and doesn’t swing.
