Barrels are VERY consumable unless you don't shoot them, ie. Safe Queens.

These big 7's are best ordered two at a time, as it may take you one barrel to figure out what shoots with which powder, and bullets you want to hunt with. Often, there is a year turnaround on a barrel job.

Really?
That's what a lot of guys are getting with the 28 Nos, is there that little difference in barrel life between two 7s with h20 capacities of 80 and 100 grains?
Look at 7mm Rem. Mag. That caliber alone in a pressure test barrel only makes it about 800ish rounds for barrel life before pressures and velocities take a big swing. Then they have to junk the barrel.

Any of the 7mags if your going to run it as a F class type gun etc...and like the test barrels....that's about tops for barrel life.

Using it as a hunting round and your not just sitting at the bench pounding rounds thru the barrel. Sure you can get more life. Rate of fire, type of powder etc...all will have an effect on barrel life.

Tracy spoke the truth. R#25 in the 7 Rem mag with 150-168g bullets is very fast(150-154s at 3230 is the accuracy node), super low SD where the Win mag primer seals the deal. The 25 fire cracks up the barrel quicker than IMR 4350 with the lighter bullets. 25 usually takes 10+ more grains of powder, heavier bullets jacks up the Time/Heat/Pressure taking it's toll on barrel life. N550-N560 is like shooting dried battery acid in the 7 Rem mag.

LOL! The shown name is Tracy but it's me doing the post.

Bartlein Barrels

I have a 257 Weatherby with about 1400 rounds down the pipe…no problems so far…water capacity of a 257 weatherby is around 84 grains—I think a 7 PRC is around 73–so in theory it would be more efficient. If you want speed you need gas—-does it burn up barrels—-yeah—but there is always a price to pay I think a fast twist 25-7 PRC would be the cat's meow—bet you could even get pretty good numbers out of it with 20-22 in barrels.

As you stated a 6.5 wby mag has 25% more capacity than the 7PRC and 12% more than —I'll admit the already overbore 257 wby…so really not an apples comparison.

It would actually be right in between a 25-06 and a 257 Wby

Anyway to each their own
If that's between 25-06 and 257Wby we are looking at more or less a 25-06AI right.

Thank you Mike! I can not find a downside in either of the cases! My main concern would be the availability of brass, the cycle of shortages we are in is horrible.

I have been shooting the 7 mag since 1979, never had an issue with the belt in over a dozen rifles. I had a Larry Willis collet die for 10 years, never needed it, and sold it.

Also had a couple of 264 Winchesters and 300 Win mags, half a dozen 257 Weatherbys, custom and factory, no problems with belts in any of them.

Due to the length of the VLD bullet, mag constrictions of a short action, I would be very leary of boxing myself in with such short Cartridge Base to ogive overall length as I did in (2) 6/284 and (2) 25/284's on a Short action, Those 4 mistakes cured me of the "short action" affliction forever, thanks to my old German Gunsmith, Joe Wagner.
Never had belt problems other than when I put weight on. Had 7Rem, 300Win and 300Wby, all work just aren't the latest but you can still buy cases for them 50 plus years on. I run full length magnum actions so no drama there either.

That is a very good option. Spec out a reamer for Lapua 30/06 brass, larger web dia, you can not kill this Lapua brass. I run the Lapua 30/06 brass in a 280 Rem and 280 AI Remington. I also run New Lake city match and Winchester brass., same for the 6.5/06.
If that's between 25-06 and 257Wby we are looking at more or less a 25-06AI right.

Some guys are experimenting with the 6.5-7PRC while others are committed to the 7-6.5PRC. This is a great hobby with endless possibilities. Keep the data coming!
Yep, I think Mr Alex Wheeler necked up a 6.5 PRC case to take 7mm bullets. Mr. Eric Cortina took this cartridge and just won the World Championship in F-Class during a match in South Africa.

Some chase speed at all cost, some chase accuracy & precision at all costs.
