Got some decent groups with Black, but I would love to hear from some of you experts on your experience with Hornady Black, specifically the BTHP bullet.
Any of you used it on any game animal or larger varmint or hog? If so, did it blow up into fragments? Or zip through like fmj?

My son killed a Caribou with American Gunner from his 6.5 Creedmoor. Supposedly the same stuff as Black. Didn't cause as much internal damage as the 140gr Elite Hunter did on mine, but did not appear to just pencil through though.

Thanks for the replies, I wish I could see a recovered expanded Hornady Black bullet...but at the same time I always want an exit hole on any animal I shoot. Gee, I am a hard man to please.

So, out of frustration today I ordered some other ammos with hunting bullets to try in my new Creedmoor. 140 Accubond and 156 Berger.

Black and American Gunner both use the Hornady 140 BTHP bullet. It's not meant as a hunting bullet and will react like other BTHP bullets but some use it and it can work.

Got a nice 8 point with a double lung shot last year with this round. Small entrance wound and bigger exit so it looks like it expanded. Turned his heart and lungs into mush! Only ran about 30 yards. Using it again this year since it is almost impossible to find ammo!

Exit wound. Not great photos. Sorry about that.

Thank you. I meant a pic from the outside of the exit hole, but from the inside of the rib cage I can tell (I think) that the bullet did not expand very much.
Glad you got your 8-point and glad he didn't run very far. I guess a lot of folks would say that if you put your bullet through the boiler room as you did, you are going to get him even if it didn't expand much. But you noticed damage to the internal organs, so I assume it must have done some scrambling of the lungs and heart. I would not have thought that it would do that.

Just another data point-I tagged a 200 pound 10 point buck at about 120 yards in December '21 using this round again this year. Couldn't really get good pics of the wounds. He was quartering away and the round went through his side, hit the inside of the far shoulder and came out the front of his neck. Just like last year, the lungs were a mess. I don't think these expand very much but they deliver a ton of energy. He ran about 50 yards and then piled up in sight. Also hammered about a 200+ pound pig with them.

I shot some of the black box .260 Remington several years back with I thought very good results.
