What are rifle (s) are you taking to elk hunt this year?

Hopefully no rifle for me. Halon 6 shooting a viper tick head. If I can't get it done with my string and stick then. Hs precision .300wsm topped with leupold 4-24 :)

I've never hunted elk (none here in Germany). Red deer and Wild Boar are the largest things around here so I'm working on a plan to hunt elk in Sweden. Not wanting to buy a new rifle for what is a trial run, I'll work with what I have. Two store bought, tried and tested 30.06s (Mossberg 4x4 and Weatherby Vanguard), good optics (Zeiss and Bushnell) and a couple of boxes of Federal Premium Vital Shok in 180 Gr. I don't shoot far distances but I stalk well and I'm deadly out to 300 mtrs. Since this will be a first, I'm open to advice. :D

I'm on the fence as to what rifle I'll take. I have two 7 mags, a 264 win mag , a 30/06 & a new sako 270. Any will do the job but leaning towards my remmy 7 mag as primary & either my 06 or 270 as backup.

The similarities are almost weird. I've got exactly the same as this except still shooting the 300 grain EH out of my 338 RUM. 215 Berger shoots amazing out of my 300 win mag.

No kidding! I thought hard about the 300 EH. but the accuracy I have gotten from the ELD is what kept me with them.

GA Precision built 6.5 Creedmoor for me, will be using the new Hornady ELD-X 143 grain factory ammo as I just got it! Also have a 280 Remington on the way but it won't be here in time.

I'll be shooting a rem700 chambered in 300wby mag. Loaded with 200gr accubonds @ 3000fps!!! Guns got a custom muzzle brake and a millet 4-16x50 scope. An absolute dream to shoot!! The gun already claimed one bull last year! Looking forward to openening day- sept26

I am hoping my Ultralight 338 RUM is done in time for me to develop a load and ill take that as my primary, if not the ol 375 rum will be up first as usual. and my backup is a 338 win which is old faithful

How much is your 338 RUM going to weigh?

My hunter will be:

Browning A bolt 2 300 WM stainless.

Backup A bolt in 7mm.

Dad's:

Rem 700 in 300 RUM

or

Win Mod 70 7 STW, Hart barrel, Nightforce NXS

This year I'm shooting a 300wsm I built a couple months ago. It's built on a SS LA Remington 700, a Wyatt center feed mag box, Brux #5 26", Jewell trigger, and McMillan Game Scout stock. Since it's on a LA I can load it long and my OAL is just under 3.2" with 215 Bergers which are running just over 2950fps.

My wife already shot her cow elk with a 6.5x47L I build earlier this year. It's a Rem. 700 SA, a Krieger #5 24", and a High Tech stock. She was shooting 140 Bergers 2740fps.

I just finished a 6.5x68 Imp and if load work goes good I'll take it for a back up. It will probably get used for antelope and maybe a deer hunt too. I can always take my 6.5-300wm or 7-300wm in a pinch as well.

So many choices and not enough elk tags.

I didn't draw out this year ( where I wanted to go) and traded my old Mod 700 ADL 30-06 and some dough for a really nice Winchester 70 Classic FWT in 30-06; I decided to take a step up from my 35 Whelen AI Mod 700 and had my rifle converted/rebarreled with a 25" #3 Shilen in 358 Norma. The rifle is still lightweight, but not too light. Its also braked. I have Leupold QR mounts with two scopes set up-the 1.5x5 and a Nikon 4x12. The Mod 70 has a 2.5x8 on it, the 338 Fed has a Burris 3x9. I just got my 358 Norma, haven't even had time to go break it in, I have a box of DoubleTap 180 TTSX all ready....but no elk or deer tags so why hurry? ha Good luck to you guys!!
