Low recoil long range cartridge

I am pretty sure you said NOT A WILDCAT...now you are tossing them into the mix. I am a 6.5 kinda guy, but what you want may be slightly out of general reach. Now Kirby or Sinnarms *MIGHT* be able to put you into a 6.5 that will push that 127gr -- .468 G1 profile bullet out at the pretty much required 3800 FPS..... I would honestly hate to be the person paying for barrels however. YIKES.... time to take a reality pill.. :)

It is going to be a bit hard to drive a BARNES Copper down range to 1k and retain 1600 fps... :) I love the TSX and TTSX ect...but not so much for extreme range as the BCs even on the LRX is a bit weak.

Should be interesting to see what shakes :)

I would only have to push them 3325 according to shooter to get them to the 1000 mark with 1600 fps at 2600 ft which is the elevation i live at

My 6.5 Sherman will make that velocity but again, you are talking wildcat. Also, I'm curious where the 1600' comes in? Is that what Barnes claims for expansion? What do you intend to hunt?.......Rich

1600 is the velocity that the new lrx will expand down to. What cartrigde is the 6.5 sherman based on?

It's a blown out .270 case with a 40 degree shoulder moved forward. It holds about 5% more than the A.I. and is equal to the Gibbs with a far better shoulder. It will equal the 6.5 WSM with a .470 boltface. I'm not trying to be argumentative but I would be a little skeptical of dependable expansion down to 1600'......Rich

Not sure what the difference in JBM is and Shooter, but I have double checked my ASL inches of Hg figures and for me it is showing you would need 3485 fps to retain 1600 fps at 1k. What is your average humidity in your hunt season sir? I did add in 20% humidity.

By the way at 2600 ASL your Inches of Hg should be 27.21 just so you can double check what shooter has you listed at etc.

Anyhow, it should be interesting to see where this all goes.

Have a good one
Gary
P.S. A very good friend of mine has hunted all over the world with barnes bullets, and he says barnes told him 1800 minimum for the TSX / TTSX and MRX bullets... now those are not the LRX so it might be different.

what do you have for temp i have 40 degrees and with 3485 fps at 20 % humidity it says i will have 1837 fps at 1k

Temp was 58*F. Interesting difference. You made sure to use G1 profile..? I have never used Shooter, so am in the dark with its settings etc.

yes i used a g1 bc
on gseven i get 1532 and shooter i get 1652 fps at 1k when launched at 3150 fps what do you get with 20% humidity, 58 degrees, 2600 elevation, 27.21, and 3150 for mv

I would think that the 6.5x284 would fit the bill well. With 140 VLD's at 3000 FPS, very low recoil, highly accurate, and will cleanly take down deer sized game out to 1000 yards.

I used to have a 300WM, that I sold to my brother - in - law, that would only shoot 165gr Barnes TSX. That loading was IMR7828SSC, Win brass, Win LR primers (non mag). With that loading, and only that loading, it would hammer 5 @ 100y into about 5/8" - 3/4". I never did get that gun to shoot bergers. For that matter the only other bullet it would shoot at all was the 175gr SMK, and that was 3/4 to 1" @ 100.

Then again my 6.5x55BJAI shoots the 130gr bergers pretty well these days :) Well, not these days so much as I finally shot the barrel out.. :p But for well over 1500 rounds of berger 130s... gun) ||

If you put in elevation and station pressure it will give you way better results than reality. If you input station pressure the elevation should be zero.
