6 5 prc, 270win, 284win

I'm surprised no one has brought up the 7 PRC

I can't find it just now, but there was a thread on this forum concerning it's SAMMI approval/registration.

Granted, at this time a custom build would be required, factory ammo non existent as far as I know.
Did not know for the 7mm prc, if some could post about it it would be apreciated

With a 600yd on game maximum, I'd go with the 7-08, mine shoots the 162gr ELDX 2700fps at my elevation (3500ft). At 600yds, that's 2000fps and 1440lbs of energy, enough for elk and deer. Efficient, low cost to reload, low recoil, and available.

for your listed choices, 7rem, 270, and 7-08 in that order... some of the newer powders make the 7-08 go a good bit faster than it would years back... We'll see how well Sta-ball works soon as I have some 168 Berger loaded for my Savage pistol with it. I was getting 2550 fps from 139 factory and 2400 fps from milder 154 handloads.
The 7rem and 270 will still walk the 7-08 though and of you are shooting critters I'd go there first.
I hesitate to go with anything new right now... The prc's smell about like the 6.5 rem mag and 350 rem mag to me. Decent cartridges, but when it's a pain to get stuff for them, why bother?

While I love my 270 Win and have always like the 284...... It is nice to find 6.5 PRC guns on the rack for sale that in standard OEM form, come with 1:8 barrels to stabilize the longer bullets. Good luck finding those barrels on a 270 or 284, in order to shoot high BC bullets.

My Savage 110 6.5 PRC came standard with a 1:8 twist barrel.

........

Have you looked for prc ammo. anything but prc unless you like having a gun you can't shoot. Just being real.
I recently purchased a 6.5 PRC. I hand load ammunition. Had a pound of H1000 sitting, couple of bricks of 210m primers laying around for my Ackley, stumbled across 3 more pounds of H1000, 400 eld-x some SST's and e-tip bullets, Nosler has had there brass pop up a couple of different times as available. my Fierce carbon edge is easy to find a highly accurate round for when hand loading, it took nine rounds to zero it from a bore sight and start shooting 1/4 moa groups at 100 yards. I also have another Fierce edge chambered in 280 Ackley does the same as far as accuracy as well as my 7 mag. If you look around components are very slowly becoming more readily available. Just be patient and keep your eyes open and you will find what you need as I have not paid any crazy Covid prices for anything well maybe the premium brass 97.45 per box of 50 pieces. Enjoy the hunt

I could do what you're needing with any of the cartridges you listed. 600yds is a chip shot (on steel) for any of these and a slew of others.
Never owned a .284 Win. but shot a 6.5-284 Norma for about 10-15yrs, so I know the "case" and I'm not impressed or looking for a 6.5 PRC. I don't hate Hornady but I don't like their misinformation and I don't follow the CM/PRC crowd. They could sell ice cubes to a Eskimo.
Since I sold my 6.5-284 I've had a chance to reunite with my .270Win. and 7mmRM. Last deer season I used the 7Mag exclusively and the season before that, the .270Win. Both years I was "overly successful". I used the 130gn Ballistic Tip in the .270 and the 162gn ELD-M in the 7Mag. Ranges were 100-500yds and both cartridges accounted for one shot kills within those ranges.

Of the calibers you listed .270 win. But I do like 264 win mag.

264win mag is a classic, never shot one but like the balistique. Very rare to find in my area, both rifle and composent

7mm08 will be my go to rifle this year for hunting, love this caliber.

Hi everyone, what will be your caliber if you have to choose one among these: 6.5prc, 270win, 284win, 7mm rem mag and 7mm08.

Got into a talk with friend of mine and whant to see what other shooter think.

Shoot will be about 600yrds max, might go longer on Steel but not on game
The 7RM is the superior round in my mind but the beltless cases are going to rule in this century so of those, the 6.5PRC.

Dont mind the belt for hunting rifle, for compétition rifle better like no belt but that only personnal preference.

I see people complain about components but I have bought 1000 .264 cal. bullets and 200 Lapua cases, 8 pounds of powder in the last 2 months for my PRC and I really like it. Zero issues here.
