Savage 110 Ultralite - 28 Nosler, Proof Research, 24" Barrel,

Is the barrel still free floated in that pic. I have a couple long range hunters that have the aluminum block. They shot great until I put my can on them. Then the fore end flexed and the barrel wasn't floating. A little sand paper got them shooting great again. But that was all with a bedding block.
No issues with touching with the can on. It would take a very intentional effort to get the barrel to touch the stock.

That's pretty good with an all plastic stock.
The two savage long range hunter's I've been around we're not free floated. There was a rib in the stock, toward the front, that appeared intentional to create a pressure point against the barrel (both were 338 Lapua).

This rifle came with a pretty big gap between barrel and stock. I'll take a picture and update this post tomorrow.

Yeah I sanded that off. Then sanded more when I added the can.

It's hard to get a great picture but here is the gap with the can attached.

180 & 195 Berger COALs
I used my overall case length gauge to see what COAL's look like for 180 & 195 Bergers.
  • 180 Berger HVLD were still getting stuck in the lands @ 3.499-3.500"
  • 195 Bergers were still getting stuck in the lands @ 3.63"
3.5" COAL will be about the max you can run in this magazine and have reliable feeding (estimated).

I didn't really plan on running 195's through this rifle. I just had some.

*Some days I can't get the "touch" just right to keep bullets from sticking in the lands. Today was one of those days. At the above mentioned lengths the bullet would fall out when I tipped the rifle pointed up.

I am seriously considering running Hammer Hunters and going for more of a maximum point blank range (143gr or 156gr).

Muzzle Brake: Seekins ATC

It's a bit of a challenge to find a self timing brake that isn't 1.00" plus diameter. I think this one works well and can be had for $85.00 or less. Find an opticsplanet.com code and you'll be set.

I didn't know when I bought it but the lock nut is designed to go over your barrel (max barrel diameter of .750"). I feel it's a cleaner look vs going carbon fiber --> stainless steel --> black brake. The lock nut completely covers the stainless portion of the barrel.

It also comes in a bead blasted stainless finish. I didn't want the carbon fiber --> stainless steel --> bead blasted finish. Non issue, the stainless barrel would be covered by the nut.

*Warning: I'd double check this would work on a 22" barrel before ordering. The barrel might be too thick. I'm getting about .790" diameter, 2" behind the lock nut. My assumption is it's the same barrel blank for a 22" model, just shortened by 2" (just an assumption).
