.300 Norma or .300 RUM (can’t decide!!!) What

I'm wanting to build a new rifle for the upcoming 230 & 250 A-TIPs and can't decide on a cartridge to push them.

Narrowed it down to these two cases predominantly for case capacity and brass availability.

I'm not ruling out another cartridge if someone can highlight one I should also be looking at.

I like the RUM as i can use just a magnum bolt face and not a lapua unit. Also Mcmillan will do a carbon for a RUM and not a Norma action.
Not too fussed about the single feeding issue with the RUM. What advantages does the Norma have over this case besides mag feeding?
RUM!

I would go with the 300 RBH (300 Norma improved) from RBROS Rifles.
Pushing 230 OTM's over 3200 from a 26 inch proof barrel with the Lapua brass.

There are pages and pages of info about what is the best big .30 out there. Just pick the one you like and go for it. They are all so close, it's just a few clicks anyway. But, if I had the coin, I'd be calling Kirby. mtmuley

Looks like the 300 Rum wins !!

I do understand the new heavy grainers coming out might sway you one way or the other . If I need more than the 200 or 230 gr.i just grab one of my 338's . It just makes me feel good to have the 300 gr. incase I need it !

Rum Man

I don't really want to go .338 I had one and thought it was overkill with a lot more recoil and not a hell of a lot more gain compared to the hot load 230 grain pills.

Twist rates:

I wanted to go a 1:8 but apparently proof don't do an 8 in anything longer then 20"? I can get a 28" 1:9, but will this stabilise the bigger Bullets ?

I'm a RUM Man all the way but there is another cartridge on the playground you may want to consider; .300 PRC designed to shoot specifically 225 to 240 grain bullets, with less recoil than the win mag and the RUM, I recently saw a video of a 1.5 mile test, and it was dead solid !

You realize that in order to generate less recoil, it would also need to generate less velocity.
Your point is partially wrong. It does have less recoil than the RUM because it has less velocity. Exactly the opposite with the 300 WM.

I understand dead is dead for sure . But since I started playing with the 338's my poor 300 ultras just set .
Here is some of my 338 family .
