You don't need to spend two or three grand on a scope to be well prepared in the field but putting a cheap bargain scope on a quality rifle is like buying factory second tires tires for your new sports car.

I would seriously consider a browning hells canyon in the speed or long range model. Lightweight and they come will muzzle brake. Not sure it gets much better for out of the box hunting rifle. Would be really good in 300 win mag

friend just had this same thing w/ credit card points. he picked up a 26 nosler from christensen arms. he is getting great groups with it and says the recoil isnt bad at all.

+1. I'd get the Hells Canyon Long Range. I can't pick between the 28 Nosler or 300 Win. Both are 1:8 twist for heavy bullets.

I've got a $1,500 credit at a local big box store. Want to get a new LR hunting rifle. Something that can take down elk and use for longer shots. possibly moose too. Preference is lighter weight, would like a muzzle break but not necessarily needed. thinking at 300 win mag, or similar caliber, maybe 30 nosler? If needed i could also spend a couple more bucks out of pocket but would prefer not to.

What would you get for a gun coming straight from the box. give me your top 3 choices.

I have a Tikka T3x superlite (stainless) in 7mm rem mag with a leupold VX3 and it is a beautiful, well balanced and accurate carry rifle. i would expect the same in .300 win mag with a brake and a VX3. I cant recommend them enough for the money / quality / accuracy.

look at the 2018 shot show special edition xbolt stalker Long range--6.5cm, 308, 30-06, 264win mag, 7rm, 300wm

this is exactly the same rifle as the hells canyon long range (standard not mcmillian stock) but 1/2 the price and just not offered in as many cartridges -- it is not cera-koated or have the cammo stock like the hells canyon so you save $$---I confirmed it with browning personally down to the lapped barrel. the stalker is all black (no frills) but 1/2 the price if you like the calibers it's offered in--since it is the LR stalker it has the faster twist rate barrels and the heavy sporter barrel profile--adjustable trigger, 5/8x24 threaded muzzle with radial brake, 26" barrel, freefloated bbl, hand chambered, target crown, extended bolt handle, and glass bedded action. I just ordered one in 7 rem mag for $600--leaves plenty for optics and mounts--Id call it a mid-weight rifle, not light but not heavy either at 7lbs 10 oz is what browning claims

I have a Tikka T3 Light in .300WSM with a Zeiss Conquest 4-14 power Milldot reticle and tactical turrets, a muzzle break and Limbsaver butt pad. It is an excellent fun for what you are looking for. I went with the .300WSM because it is slightly flatter shooting than a .300 Win Mag. My suggestion is that you get a scope with Tactical turrets so you can dial in your adjustments for long range. I've been shooting 1000 yards for a number of years and this setup has served me well. I have very close to $1,500 in my set up.

With that being said, the .300 Win Mag will be cheaper to shoot unless you plan on reloading, which I do.

I would put this rifle in .300 win mag up against any rifle at any price point in terms of accuracy and precision without any modification. It should stack groups well under a MOA. I own one and with well tuned hand loads I'm stacking .3-4" 10 shot groups at 100 yards with it using Berger 210 grain hunting VLD. It comes with an excellent factory trigger and a high quality HS Precision Stock.

My main hunting partner shoots this rifle again chambered in .300 win mag. It's slightly less accurate but still very acceptable (under MOA at 100 yards) with 210 grain Berger hunting VLD. It's lighter, less expensive and has a good stock. I would be looking to immediately upgrade the trigger with a Timney if I bought one though. Last it doesn't have a detachable magazine. Depending on who you ask this can be a pro or con. Hope this helps and good luck. Both rifles will serve you well.

.28 Nosler, hands-down. Especially since Browning is using 1:8 twist barrels in the 2018 and newer models.
