Now that Weatherby has introduced the 6.5/300 Weatherby have we seen 6.5 pills pushed TOO fast?

Personally, as the owner of a 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle and 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator I feel my "upper limit" for this cartridge would be the 6.5/284 Norma. That's about as fast as I want or need to push that bullet, even in the 147 gr. - 150 gr. range.

Yes, the 26 (6.5 mm) Nosler is FAST but how fast is necessary?

Barrel life suffers at the expense of speed, it all depends on how quick you can develop a load and how many shots you plan on getting after. The more it gets pushed the better it becomes for all of us, always moving forward.

There is and should be an option for everyone, some like the speed and could care less about barrel life. If none of us liked better ballistics we'd all still be using grandfather's 30-30 .

Find out what works for you and enjoy, that's what it's all about.

I think both the 26 and the 6.5/300 are pushing the limits for the berger bullets, and likely most of the softer vld bullets.
I shot quite a few different bullets in my 26 before settling on the 127lrx (at 3540fps). After playing with two rifles in 26 I think the limit for 6.5 would be a saum or wsm case. I have a 260ai and a 6.5-284, both are much easier to load for.

140's at over 3300 fps out of my Sherman seem ok. Speeds ok as long as it is accurate. I think that the Weatherby and Nosler are using to much powder for the velocity they produce.

We have a couple of reamers on the shelf that are crying loudly to get used. The 6.5 UltraCat is getting it's second go this spring. 6.5-300rum AI. Going to be on a 32" in a 6" twist. Planning a Hammer bullet about 160g and 2" long. Gonna be fun.

6 twist? 2" long projectiles? Amen brother!

Please post results, experimenting is a great thing. I can only wonder . . .

Hmmm...

6.5-338 Lapua Improved, nitride barrel and 137gr Hammer solid bullets or 140gr Cutting Edge solids and a ton of powder sounds fun.
