Last one's were a 215 Berger, one round done, a few before that ran some 177 Hammers and was impressed, Hammers and 140, 170 and 215 Bergers are the go to.

Pick the bullet that most correlates to a choice.

Also if you have a chance, tell us the muzzle velocity, and how did it do? Also note the impact velocity and range if you can.

Thanks for providing this info. As a long time elk hunter i'm trying to look outside my box and see what others are doing.
Really, another one. These are fun.
I picked the the "premium bonded lead core" but have shot many elk with SST's.
I know this is a long range forum but most of our elk are harvested under 500 yards.
I will say that I'm moving to the Hammer Hunters for all our cartridges next year.

I have shot the 165 SST's in .308 Win. and several elk with it, load was 46.1 gr. Varget , velocity was a smig over 2800 FPS. Had to shoot some more than once. But it worked well for me. Ranges for this bullet in the .308 Win. work very well at most contentious ranges.
Not to use the E word. Lol

LAST ELK, I miss read.
Factory 7RM 142gr. SST (brand new cartridge for the house, wife's gun)
442 yards. Quartered shot. Recovered bullet just under hide.
Cow elk this past season

300 gr berger elite hunter 338LM, mv2765, bull elk 945 yds, elev 4550, terminal velocity 1925 fps. Dialed 19.25 elevation 21 degree downhill slope. Left a 3-4 inch hole on the offside. DRT

225 grain .338 Barnes TTSX out of my .340 Weatherby. 5X5 Bull. Shot him in the center of his chest (he was facing me) at about 100 yards, estimated impact velocity 2700 fps. He dropped at the shot, and never moved again. Could not find an exit wound, and I did not recover the bullet (internals were a giant glob of goo).

6 x 6 bull Dec 2018. 230 gr Berger from 300 Rum. 2800 fps at muzzle. Impact velocity 2670 fps 3650 ft/lb. Bull facing me at angle at 156 yds. Shot between front shoulders, exited behind offside shoulder. Turned to right and ran a few steps to crash into dead trees nearby. Sounded like a pickup going through a wooden garage door.

Cow elk with a 180 accubond at about 3025 MV out of my .300WM. 309 yards just behind shoulder. Bullet went in did it's job and kept going. She took about 5 steps and tipped over in the sage.

140 Berger VLDH from 6.5 SAUM at 367 yards

195 grain burger elite hunter at around 3,000 FPS. About 100 yards. Bullets seemed to expand on contact. But did it's job.

168 Berger Classic hunter 284 win, MV 2803 919 yards high shoulder completely ruined everything in its path including spine and exited found a piece of jacket when we cut her up.

My last elk was with a 230 Berger. Folded it like a an accordion. Right behind the point of the shoulder. Custom 300 Rum at 400 yards.

It was my daughter who shot the elk, my reload, .270 140gr Barnes tsx, velocity at about 2800fps. 265 yard shot quartering away, hit him high in the back which dropped him, exited out the front, died within 1.5 minutes
