What do you think of the 6.5 WBY RPM ?

I have 3 257 wby mags already. And a 6.5-257 wby. If I need more than that to kill it I don't need to shoot it.
Thanks anyway.

That 6.5 - 257 sounds like a winner. My hesitation with the Creedmore is not the bore diameter, but its the case capacity. The 257 mag. case takes care of that very nicely.

Here's a photo of my wildcat. The case on the left is a 9.3X64 Brenneke. Since I couldn't find any when I wanted to buy some I purchased a bunch of Norma 7 Rem Mag brass and turned the belts off and turned the rim down. I guess one could call it a 6.5-7Wea because of the shoulder shape I like. I used the Weatherby double radii.

What's very interesting is this duplicates the new 6.5RPM. This difference is instead of the new titanium action I use a regular steel six lug Mark V action and a Pac-Nor barrel. I ordered a 28" 7mm barrel for my Klienguenther and this 26" 6.5 barrel arrived. Instead of making a fuss, I made what I now play with.

If weatherby did the 6.5-257 instead of the 6.5 -300 it would have been more popular and then the 6.5rpm wouldn't be needed either. But in all reality the 6.5 rpm and the 6.5-257 and the 6.5 Saum are all going to be so close in performance that won't matter which one you do. I really like my 6.5-257 best. But then again adg makes the 6.5 Saum brass now and it's really strong stuff. So just build what your action fits.

Don't forget the 6.5-06 imp. I built 3 barrels for my friend for 1000 yard comp. They all shot 3150-3200 with 142s. This was 29 inch barrels. We used a special run of 30-06 lapua brass and they only lasted 4-5 shots. We were able to get 3300 with rl-26 but it didn't group good enough. My friend Bob Pastor used this round to clean up in f-class. He won so many championships he can't get all the trophies on one wall.

Agreed it (6.5-257)is a superior cartridge to the 6.5-300 it's on the ragged edge for performance vs overbore for the 264. My current pac nor 26" 6.5-257 can push 147s to 3400 but really shines with 140s & N560 @ 3350. Good brass life, plenty flat.
But, it still needs a 9 lug. So the rpm would have a home on the 6 lug.

The 6.5-06AI is a great cartridge! Bought an Interarms Mark X action about 10 years ago and had Krieger true it and mate and bed a fluted stainless barrel to it in a Boyd laminate stock. Told Big Brother it was my "600-yard clay pigeon shooter" because it was. (He said he hoped it was good for more than that, which it definitely is.)

With a 24" barrel it moves a 130g Scirocco II at 3161fps and a 140g BT @ 3075fps.

If the Savage I have as a donor had a .473" bolt face it would become a sporter-weight 6.5-06AI. Instead it has a magnum .532" bolt face (it was a 7mm RM) and will most likely become 6.5 PRC or .264 WM.

Bolt heads are easily changed out on savages. If you get a ptg it will probably be truer too.
Andrew how did you get 147s to 3400? What powder did you use?

Reminds me of a friend of mine. He didn't reload, he loaded new brass for his 7RUM. They were so hot he could not reload them because the brass wouldn't hold a new primer.

Rl26, the eld m doesnt build pressure in my chamber like the berger does. Plus I found the berger 140 to be very sensitive to velocity. Much more than 3300 and groups open way up. This barrel really likes N560 and I have 8# so that will likely finish this barrel off. If I build another, i think the enduron line from imr will fit the bill. Vv powders are tough to find in Ca and rin twice as much.

I haven't put rl26 in mine yet but the stuff seems to get another 100fps in a lot of cases. Will give it a go. I love 147 elds I buy the 2000 pack. Sure sucks sorting 2000 bullets.

I've had temp spikes when over 90* in 240 weatherby if you're in a warmer climate
