what change in pwoder in a 223 would make a difference

hey im doing load development for a .223. using ADI 2208 (varget) and 65gr sbt. have just done a ladder test my i think i may have done to small of powder incriments. did .2 grain differences. is that too mall. should i do like .5 grains? what experience does everyone find.

I used .2 gr increments from 24.0 to 26.2 of 2208 behind a 69 gr SMK when building up a load for F Class. In hindsight this may have been too large a range to cover in a Savage 16FSS [22" barrel]. From my tests [in my rifle] 25.2, 25.4 & 25.6 gr 2208 all had very similar POI versus POA so I have settled on 25.4 gr 2208.

As a generalisation, I have found that the best [most accurate load] is generally towards to upper end of the load window for any given range of data. Consult quite a few sources [eg ADI site, Sierra. Hodgden, Hornady, etc] before settling on the range to test & monitored for pressure signs VERY closely.

cheersw for the reply. yea i seem to have found the same powder charde is seeming to hit the same point.

When I loaded for the .223 I usually tested in .5gn increments and further refined when I found a suitable load. I did this with Varget, H4895 and W748. Looking back through my reloading journal I find that my tightest groups were at the upper level of the powder range I tested, regardless which powder or bullet.

These loads were for a 1-9" Savage:
69gn Nosler Comp/26gn Varget/Rem 6.5 (.7565")
69gn Nosler Comp/25gn H4895/Rem 6.5 (.303")
69gn Sierra MK /25gn H4895/ Rem 6.5 (.212") 3004fps
55gn NBT /26.5gn W748/Rem 6.5 (.136")
