Looks interesting, if it's anything like rosin I've dealt with before, it'll be quite messing in the rain.

If the rings are of good quality & make good contact with properly torqued screws, it's not needed.

IMO not needed if you use a good enough ring.

I gave up lapping when I started using two and three screw caps. I occasionally use RingTrue tape on certain rifles, mainly old benchrest guns with single screw dovetail set ups. I've yet to have a three screw ring slip on me, but doubled-up two rings would be my solution to that, a la the Kirby Allen setup.
