I'm thinking about ordering a new scope soon to replace the *** tasco 6-24x thats on my .308 now. What i'm looking for is...

Atleast 75MOA adjustment (1000+y without a 20moa base)
something in the 4-16x 6-24x range would be ideal
FFP or SFP or whatever it is where the reticule dosen't grow/shrink would be nice but it's not a must have.
Mil-Dot and 1/4moa, 15moa/turn, target turrets are a must
And it has to be good in low light.

I've been thinking about the Leupold Mark 4 LR/PR 4.5-14x40
but at $790US ($1100AU) it's streching the budget, but i guess it's best to cry once, right? also i'm wondering how the 40mm objective will perform early of a morning before the sun has come up?

Any experiance, suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Ice, You can't go wrong with Mark IV. I have one in 16X mounted on my Tactical 308 rifle and the glass is very clear and sharp. It's much improvement than my Vari-X III 4.5X14X50 Tactical even though they're both the same 30MM scope. The dial are also tight and precise. Bargain hard and check e-bay once in a while. I got mine at e-bay, brand new from the box still in shrink wrap for $900 shipping included. Goodluck

I know your getting rid of a "*** Tasco" but Tasco DOES make one scope that is worth it's salt. It is called a Super Sniper. Tasco makes these scopes for SWFA. Look at one here:
Super Sniper

I just put one on a Tactical 308 and I really like it! The glass is great, it tracks great and it is substantially less than it's high end competion. The only problem is that is not available in a variable. 10, 16 or 20 power only. You should check them out.

Desert Fox,
Thanks for the tip, i never thought of checking e-bay for scopes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif .

Skip,
Thats what i was thinking. Leupold has the best warranty out there, don't they?

Dog caller,
Thanks for the suggestion, from what i have read they're great scopes. But i need a variable so it's still useful for close range, moving game.

ATM i'm leaning toward the 4.5-14x PR because it's got 20MOA over the 4.5-14x50LR/T (95 vs 75) and it's also about $300 cheaper, also i kinda like the idear of covered turrets. The cons are that i can't find one with a TMR reticule and i'm not sure how the 40mm lens will go?

Is there a noticable diffrence between the two in low light?
Are they avaliable with the TMR reticule?

Thanks guys
