It is about twice your price point, but I don't think you're going to find a lighter, better production rifle than the Barrett Fieldcraft. Go handle one and read about them...

I would also look at the new Ruger long range hunter, but only in 300 win mag. Not sure why only one cal.

I've never bedded any of the barrel on a Vanguard. To date I have not found it necessary.
