Jim Zumbo talks on Nugent forum

[ QUOTE ]

Personally, I take great offense that he took a conversation he had with a personal friend of mine, about one of my 270 AM rifles, took bits and pieces from that conversation and basically spread lies about it on a public blog. That is not a man with a good heart. That is a man with an agenda that is willing to lie to make a storyline.

When was this? Yet another blogging incident?

Guns and Labs,

The Blog that was posted on here about his comments about long range shooting was written by Zumbo after having a conversation with one of my customers at last years SCI event.

Here is the e-mail from my customer telling me about it:

kirb
The guy he talked to at the sci was me we chatted
about guns and the fact that I had A custom gun built
for me that was capable of shooting deer at 800 yds in
the right conditions not that I had done it & I told
him so. I told him I had shot a deer at 602 yds on one
of our few windless days and with that gun it was very
doable with a good rest 'which I had.
I had no idea he would take it like he did but I'm
glad to know what he is really like. I kinda liked him
but I guess you never know. Anyway you build a hell of
a gun and I told him so. I guess he probably won't
order one though.

see you later

tony

Zumbo claimed the guy was bragging about taking deer at ranges out to 800 yards when in fact that was not the case at all. Instead my customer and friend told him he was practicing alot out to that range and had taken a deer at 602 yards in ideal wind conditions.

Seems Zumbo changed things up to serve his purpose a bit better.

Thats usually what people say or think when they aren't the ones doing it. I'm so sick of narrow minded people on the LR subject. They just need to open there freaking eyes and minds a little bit. Were not in the 50's anymore ya know. Things change. 300 yard shots tend to get boring on big game. That dont mean I'm gonna pass it up if thats what presents itself, I'm not that stupid, but its a lot more challenging to make a long shot then a short one. I really hate when people just say your "winging shots". Like the average joe blow who shoots a box of shells a year and goes out hunting thinks he knows how to shoot. Ya right, give me a freaking break. I'll put my money on the guy who shoots hundreds if not thousans of rounds downrange, then the guy who shoots a box of shells a year. I also hate how gunwriters say anythign over 300 yards is a long shot and you need to get closer. However, I see where they get off saying that. The mags are meant for the general public, the general public is not very smart and believes everything they read, especially if its from some so called "expert." They dont want any joe blow thinking they can buy a 300 RUM and start making 500-600 yard shots just cuz they have a RUM. Some people really need to get a grip is all I'm trying to point out. Gunwriters and the average joe is mainly who I'm talking about. The people that frequent LR sites and put the time, money, and effort into it are not the ones I'm referring to. If the "naysayers" actually put as much time into shooting and practicing at LR, as they do bad mouthing the sport, they might see it differently, but they never will because there to busy bitching about how its not right, not hunting, not ethical, etc..Sorry for the ranting and raving, but I"m just getting sick and tired of trying to justify the way I hunt and shoot to narrow minded people. Theres some things I dont agree on either, but I choose not to point them out or even bring up the subject because for one, its none of my business how one chooses to hunt or shoot. And another is were never all going to agree on the same thing, so its kinda agree to disagree type of thing. No matter how you try to explain it to them, they'll never understand. I dont even know why I waste my breath half the time. Oh well, good shooting and hunting everybody!!!!!!

As sad as these statments were/are I can't say I am really suprized. I have huge respect for MANY gun writers, but I also know that some are driven by who is paying the bills. I don't want to offend anyone but no one can tell me that if Jack O'Conner had been hired by Remington instead of Winchester, the R700 would now be the "hunters rifle" and the 280Rem would have all but killed the 270. The masses take what these guys say as gospil truth and never even think about it. Several times inferior rounds have been successful over better rounds because of who is pushing/using/writing about them. 243/6mm Rem (Warren Page), 270 vs. 280 (O'Conner), 32 Win Spcl vs. 30-30 (don't remember).

I guess what I am saying is that these guys are human and they make mistakes; but when you make a living in the publice eye and you make a mistake this big your career is over. Also, like was said before; he nevered apologized and he never addressed twisting a LRH's words for his own use.

Just like with our beloved guns: once you pull the trigger on a statement like that, you can't call the bullet back.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think it matters how big or small a bullet I shoot, or how short or how far I shoot. It doesn't matter what kind of sights I use. If I want a .17 cal, .30 cal, 50BMG, or 100 whatever I should be able to have one if for no other reason than because I want one.

This seems to be a growing trend with some of these gunwriters lately. They try to "shore up" their group of followers by making certain they are not inclusive of "radical" elements within the broad culture. Currently the "hunting crowd" is trying not to become part of the "gun war/2nd ammendment war" so as to keep the $$$$$$$ safe from the Leftist/communist/socialist. If they can just keep their "legitimate sporting use" sharade in tack, then they think they are safe.

Frankly, hunting four legged critters should just be for practice. It is the two legged critters with their spineless "legitimate use" cohorts which are why we have the 2nd ammendment!!!!!!!!!!

The enemy within is the greater threat than the one that is outside the gates as Cicero(sp) so eleoquently stated long ago.
