I've read that article. Fantastic stuff. Does anyone know a place to get a heavy target stock made of hardwood that won't break the bank? (Under $800)

well, if you want laminant than you can get a rought finished stock for around $250 from Richard microfit Richards Microfit Gunstocks you have to bed it and finish it but they will install the butt pad for you.

I have one and its really nice.
