Gday
Had this forwarded onto me

Some interesting parts in the video ( not agreeing or disagreeing lol ) while I don't like gel on a comparison to critters , sxs it's a pretty cool observation

Long live the old RN pills 😇although not likely liked by a lot here 🤣

Combining the best of ea pills characteristics in one package is the hard part but some companies are pushing the envelope which is encouraging

Cheers

I shoot gel for a living and have shot a lot of it. This is a good side by side comparison but we have found that this "plastic" gel doesn't perform the same as true 10% ballistic gel. The plastic stuff seems to be a little denser and may not(or may) give a true representation of bullet expansion or integrity. We found a bit more fragmentation in the plastic stuff with some bullets. That being said, gel , no matter what kind, is simply a consistent medium for testing terminal performance. The stuff he is using is certainly a hell of lot easier to use and you don't have to mix it. I have mixed so much 10% gel and carried it around in my truck to LE shoots, that I'm pretty sure a cadaver dog will hit on my truck. I smell that crap in my sleep.

We used animal glue for our gel testing in the 90's, it has better gelatine properties than this commercial stuff. It is not clear and stinks badly, however, it is far better at simulating tough animal tissues and we included hide and bone.
Similar results with the wet/dry bullet boxes with air pockets, paper is very hard on bullets.
I was surprised with the Ballistic Tip results as most we tested had core/jacket separation.

Cheers.

Can ballistic gel or plastic gel be melted and reused?
I guess that is a big advantage to that "plastic" gel. It can be melted and reused. The 10% gel we use has to be pitched. I laways ask the range dudes when their trash gets picked up. Don't want to leave it in the dumpster for a week...especially in Arizona. I also tell them if they want to shoot some yotes over "bait" throw it out a ways and set up a blind. ;)

The gelatin we use has some pretty rigid criteria to meet FBI protocol standards. It's all animal based and has to be mixed by weight to 10%. We have to shoot it at specified temp with a very narrow range and we "calibrate" each block before we shoot. We show calibration with a Daisy air rifle shot over a chronograph to a specified depth of penetration.

Gday nksmfamjp

He used more bullet types than most. By not slowing them down, what did we learn? Most anything kills at max velocity.
on above definatly a few sxs here which was good to see
I learned a few things but maybe @Taj has better information/knowledge he will share on how this plastic gel compares to impacts on critters in relationship to where it actually opens in critters vrs the gel ( a rule of thumb be a great start ) as it's one of the parts I personally look @ a pills preformance capability as if a pill opens to early or late on specific critters or different resistances in the same critter you can be in a world of hurt if your wanting a very quick kill

On below I've seen a couple of his things & I like those also for a better analysis imo also & always like more independents than a company as you seem to get better ideas of potential where a company has a different approach imo
On analysis one part that stuck out for me & @ the rough 5:50 to 6 min mark he stated that in a prc ( 300/400 fps more ) he would get better penetration hmmm @ faster speed that's a concern of mine as in my experience in those types of pills you are getting to a velocity impact level where penetration will be reduced to severely reduced upon the resistance in the critter that's being impacted

Look up Simplemindedfella for less marketing and better analysis.

Cheers

Agreed. Usually with cup and core bullets penetration is inverse to velocity.
