Camera for Alaska Dall Hunt

I would say, that depends on you budget, and what you want out of your camera… if you want a simple point and shoot, I would go for something like the Olympus TG6. It's waterproof, and you could basically throw it down the mountain and it would still work. They're not the best quality photos, but they are decent for a point and shoot in that price range.

The next step up is going to be a compact mirrorless camera. I would recommend the Sony a6600 or a6100 depending on budget. Both are incredible cameras that have very good image quality. Being an aps-c mirrorless camera, these are still very compact and lightweight.

If you want the absolute best, I would recommend a Sony A7IV. This would get you incredible results, but it's also pretty expensive, lenses are expensive, and you're getting a bit bigger and bulkier as well. This might be a bit much to carry all day.

I literally film and photograph other episodes hunts for a living, so if you need anymore info or recommendations, I'd be more than happy to help.

Get a nice phone and depending on length of trip battery pack. You won't want to carry extra stuff. Phone can take place of so much. Pics from my crappy iPhone 10 wife's 13 is way better

My Droid has 100x zoom. Sure it's no top of the line cannon with a Jesus lense but it gets the job done. Agree with Tundra Cruiser, it's probably in your pocket. This picture is at 70x if I remember right.

If you never shot photography with a camera, a phone seems really good to you. A good compact camera can deliver incredible photo's if you take the time to learn basic photography.

Suggest contacting Doug at Cameraland to see what they offer based upon what your needs will be. Bet they can suggest options to consider. I would also suggest taking a camera course to learn some basics plus unlock your camera's potential IF you do not have photography experience.

You already know an AK Dall will provide photo's of a lifetime with your posting!

Superceded I think to this:

I have a Canon Powershot and they have great features. Its no longer available but anything similar is what I would suggest.
My Samsung S21 Ultra 5G takes nicer photos than my Canon Powershot, which I used for a number of years. Like 8-10yrs ago.
